Topic: Meat Quest update thread

Almost a year after the script was finished, I have finally decided to make a production thread for my medieval film. Now, although I haven;t done any animation for it in quite a long time (loss of motivation, distractions, ....TF2 mini/tongue ) I am still slowly moving along with the film.
Recently I did a few test animations for the film and they actually look pretty good, but I keep shying away from doing actual production of the film because of two main things; audio problems, In quite a few of some people's lines there's a bit of noise (though JK said he'd redo his soon), but Audacity can't remove it properly, it either only removes it when no one is speaking or makes everything sound distorted. And set building, you've probably noticed that in most of my films my sets...well, they suck. All the sets I make are bland and lifeless and have little to know detail at all. I have almost no knowledge on good set building and looking at BuilderBrother's medieval thread just makes me extremely jealous. So if any of you have tips on better set building, PLEASE tell me.

Anyway, enough of the rants, this is definitely going to be my biggest film yet, and not just in terms of length, the complex sets and fight scenes, better lighting, more actors, but don't expect it to be a 30 minute epic, I don't want this film to get over-hyped (I really need to get better at those sword fights). mini/wink
So I'll try to get this film out as soon as possible without straining myself, and I'll get myself motivated to do more animating and spend less time on other stuff.
EDIT: Also, I may be getting some posters/pics up soon.

Great looking project. From the short animating clusters you've sent me I'd say that this will be a promising film. Mind you, anything from you is usually good. mini/wink

SHUT UP JOHN I'M THIRSTY

I seriously can't wait for this, the script is fantastic. I'll try to redo those lines soon, and also can you resend the script? I deleted it when I was clearing out my computer.

Oh God, I remember that. mini/XD Anyway, sure I'll resend the script. And if anyone could give some set making tips they would be very welcome. mini/smile
Also, I can't believe I've made a whole Medieval script without making one Zelda CDI reference...

Sounds fantastic!  I'll see if I can give you some set building pointers. mini/smile

Re: Meat Quest update thread

Okay, hopefully I'll get a poster up as soon as I get back from holiday, I've already taken the picture, but I still need Stan to send me a picture file of the logo. Also, when I get back I'll try to get up an update video ASAP, mainly about Meat Quest. Finally, does anyone have any tips on either set building or sword fights?
Thanks in advance. mini/smile

OMFG WTF DUBBLE POST

So this is my Meat Quest  poster for you guys at the moment, the logo was made by Stan (it's actually an intro video file, I just took a frame) and I had a bit of trouble as Timmy's helmet kept going into the logo. mini/tongue I'll probably post a frame or so if I actually get round to filming some more, but hopefully this poster will suffice for now.
Also, my new sig matches the poster. mini/tongue

Looks promising. I shall look forward to it.

I do not care about your opinion, unless it has to do with it needing more ponies.

Re: Meat Quest update thread

Okay guys, I need to build a sort of medieval village/market thing, but I need some building techniques on that kinda shtuff. Also, for my first set I'm having a forest type place and need to get some small plant pieces (one bricklink store has over 3000) but I can't seem to find any bricklink stores with lots of brown 2x2 round pieces to create the illusion of large trees, anyone know what I could use instead?

What camera do you use. If you use LQP9000, I recommend that you should buy Digital SLR. mini/wink

Re: Meat Quest update thread

Considering he's like halfway through the film I think that it'd be a bad idea. Plus, buying a DSLR is an extremely expensive investment.

Re: Meat Quest update thread

Yeah, I don't think I'll switch when I've already done some scenes for it. Can someone please answer my question?

I suggest asking Kinz this question, since I have seen a very cool kind a looking like village house he has built for his upcoming film, The Red River Flows.

Re: Meat Quest update thread

In answer to your question:

Village:
Cross section design on building (brown or black)
Different colors add interest to the scene
Sloping roofs (sometimes different colors)
A few windows at least
Chimneys
Some sort of path (dirt, possibly cobble)
Everyday medieval stuff (carts, stalls, horses, etc.)
Stone or no stone

Forest:
Brown bricks with brown arches, dark green plants?
Other vegetation, with different landscape and elevation
Reddish brown pretty much the same as brown

Though I don’t know what bricks are available to you, the first and foremost detail is that the medieval village houses should ALWAYS have a criss-cross pattern cutting through the basic color (see our screen shot below).

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/BuilderBrothers/tSatS/housepictut.png

This is a touch that makes people usually label the house as “medieval.”  The rest of the building is all up to you and is usually based on what materials you have.   Chimneys, sloping roofs, numerous windows, and any other realistic medieval thing are bonuses.

In the village itself, adding things that were part of everyday medieval life add to the realism of the shot, such as cart wheels, stalls, etc.

As for the forest, I found this bricklink seller in the UK that is selling the part you need for a relatively reasonable price.
http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=Ch … D=25904088
Reddish brown is almost exactly the same as brown, and most people do not recognize the difference, especially if they are used as only a back drop (in case you didn’t know.)

If this for some reason does not work for you, then what we are using in our forest are brown arches stacked on brown slopes and bricks.  Depending on what you want, this may or may not work.
Hope this helps (sorry for such a long post).  If you want more help, you can PM us with more details on what you want.  Also, thanks for the compliment in the first post!
