So here's the deal.
1. I take my pictures in 1920x1080.
2. I export in 1280x720.
Video is perfectly fine and awesome HD.
3. I upload to YouTube.
YouTube is saying HD, but my vids look nothing like

I am using Final Cut Express.

I don't use a capture program because I find they get in the way. 
My camera is a Samsung HZ30W.
You really need a capture program. That will help get the highest quality your camera can do.

What would you recommend? Is there any free ones out there? 
I have the same problem. In FramebyFrame my quality looks great, when I upload through iMovie to YouTube it sucks

I would recommend monkeyjam but there website is down so you could use helium frog. or if your on a mac, frame by frame.

When you export in iMovie, use the H.264 compressor.

Can you set where it saves the pictures to? Like, if I wanted to save the pictures to iPhoto? 
Yes you can choose the place, Idk about iPhoto though

why is it bad that it doesnt save to iPhoto. you take the pictures in frame by frame, then save the video as an .avi or .mov and then import it to iMovie or another editing software

EDIT: Nope. But I guess you could drag each picture to desktop, into iPhoto.
