Topic: 9

For those who have not seen it, Tim Burton (or at least his production company) is putting out a new film entitled 9 (view trailer).

I'm not sure what to make of this film. They've gone for CGI for this film, which means that the visuals are nice but the story feels kind of ... empty to me. Or something. Not quite sure what to make of it.

Your feelings?

"How they should have made LittleBigPlanet" is what I'm getting.

That pretty much sums up how I feel about most of Burton's films, tbh.

It's like if they made Fallout 3 levels for LBP.

Re: 9

I want to see it.  It's based of the hit short film of the same title.  The director of the original short film has returned to direct and co-write: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9_(film)

I really see 9 as proof that amateur like us do have a chance, and there is a possibility that we could direct at least one feature-length film.

Re: 9

I saw the short film a couple of months ago and loved it, so I'm quite interested to see how the film is going to turn out.

You're saying you think me and KG should send him the Dane Cook films? Hmm, you could be on to something there...

Re: 9

It just looks so EPIC. I've also watched the orginal ten minute short, which won about fifty awards for an animation contest, it's also a WIN, so this film is bound to be a huge success when it's released. mini/bigsmile

Where?

Re: 9

I saw the short film a couple of years ago at an animation festival, and I thought it was extremely well made. I'll probably check this out simply because I liked the short film so much.

Re: 9

There are quite a few reasons I want to see 9. I like me some Tim Burton, so anything even remotely related to him will pique my interest. There's a slew of actors lending their voice talent that I like. There appears to be Black Fantasy creatures present (a la Nannan). Coheed and Cambria's Welcome Home is the trailer track, which pumps me up even more. Also, it's a CG film that doesn't feature talking, anthropomorphic animals....my prayers have been answered! mini/XD

Cheers!

Re: 9

I watched the original. It was amazing. The only thing I don't like about this new one is 9's voice.

Re: 9

I really want to see this. Kinda disappointed it's not stop-motion though. If they pulled that off that would be amazing

Re: 9

Well, the original wasn't stop-motion either, so it's not like their changing the "style" from the original.

Re: 9

The trailer is rather epic, but I have a lot of love for the original short. The character design is amazing, the creature's movement is unnerving with how organic it appears but it looks incredible, and the ending is poignant and bitter-sweet. For a film that has no dialogue, it's very effective.

The problem with the actual film I'm having is the fact that 9 is voiced by Frodo/Spyro. Which is rather mind-screwy in a cracky sorta way.

Re: 9

I just saw the short film, and it seems that they might have changed the story rapidly to add more time to it. As many people say the trailer is pretty epic, I am not sure what to expect from the feature film.

Re: 9

Take heart that the original director who wrote the original short film is also co-writing the feature film, so the risk of adaption decay is not as threatening.
