*Update* (yes, we remembered)
First off, we’ll respond to all the questions and critiques:
jstudios wrote:You guys have to make some tutorials soon…
We are planning on making an entire series of tutorials on all the aspects of this film when we are done, but we don’t plan on making any until then.
Binding Brick wrote:Or are you not using colour correction?
We were not using color-correction in that particular picture, but in the film everything will definitely be color-corrected.
MadBrick wrote:If you wanted it to look more realistic, I would suggest adding some Lego foliage such as vines or leaves around the bottom part by the water. Most castles are centuries old and unless this castle is supposed to be newly built in your film, you should try to age it visibly a bit.
The idea of the foliage and leaves by the water is something we already thought of doing and are going to do, but thanks for trying to help us out. We appreciate it. As for making the castle seem old however, in the film the castle is still occupied and not necessarily very old. Not to mention the fact that the mystical lantern that resides in the topmost tower probably keeps it pretty clean as well.
websitecommissie wrote:The castle prop is very good, but I don't really like the walls which clearly 'suffer from' the "Big Gray Wall" syndrome.
But further it all looks great. Keep us updated!
As we mentioned above, the castle is new and kept clean, so there would not be a lot of wear on the walls. However, we may add some stones or something to some of them to add some color variety.
StudioL30 wrote:Exactly how big is your brick collection?
Roughly 250 pounds and rising.
Tobias wrote:Holy moly! So I hope to see this great film out soon, though I don't expect is out so soon, since it really seems like you have a lot of hard work to do.
It is probable that the release date will be pushed back to around next Christmas or so, since everything in this film seems to take longer than expected (and we always seem to have less time to work on it than expected).
mcoov wrote:Is it a backdrop, or a working set?
A working set. We most likely would not put this much detail into a backdrop.
Samwise wrote:Is there an After Effects tutorial for the dragon fire you've done?
We partially based it on several tutorials and then messed around with things until we got the right look. However, as we mentioned above, once this film is over, we will be releasing quite a few tutorials on how we did the effects/props/animation/etc. in this film.
brenden17 wrote:Time for another update if i did my math right
Your math is right, and you’re reading it.
Now, for the actual update.
Since last post we have built some new props and animated about another 20 seconds of footage. We have also been tinkering around with camera rigs and designed one ourselves (with the help of our dad). Here are some pictures of our custom “zoom” rig:
(Also, please note that these pictures were taken in the “playroom” of our younger siblings, so there are toys strewn about that we were too lazy to crop out.)
It is capable of "zoom-panning" up to 10 feet in either direction, and you can measure the increments by using a yardstick, large ruler, or tape-measure.
Thanks for all the critique guys! It really inspires us and helps us to make the film better.
