  3. Also, which lens should I get for brickfilming?

EDIT:

  1. Will taking too many pictures damage the SLR?

  2. Will the same happen to my compact?

  3. Will a Canon 550D be able to take frames in 1080p with a capture program?

1. don't quote long posts
2. idk what x.xf means. OH unless you mean 4.5f or something like that- don't worry that's aperture and that's for DoF. Just use use the focus ring on the lens, no need to learn how to use numbers for it.
3. The mm means... I think how far the camera zooms. BUT anywhere between 15mm and 20mm is wide angle. SO if you have a 18mm-135mm lens, that means at the shortest length it's a wide angle, and the more you turn the lens to zoom in, you have a zoom lens. 18-135mms are a great all in one wideangle/zoom lens BUT not good for brickfilming. May I recommend a 18-50mm? Or a light macro lens (meaning not too enlarging. Macro will help create a blurry background when focusing on LEGO characters.
4. YES a DSLR's sensor or shutter or something gets damaged overtime and is expensive to replace BUT it's probably more photos than you can possibly take to cause that.
5. NO a compact will not get damaged from taking too many photos
6. a canon 550d or any other dslr will NOT take photos in 1080p- that's only VIDEO if it's possible for the camera. DSLRs take photos in MP (megapixels). That means, the 550d probably takes 15 or 18mp photos. like 6000 pixels in height or something. 1920x1080 is the highest resolution you can get for video.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Apologies for quoting the long post. When I said 1080p, I was referring to the resolution of the frame (1920x1080). Do you know if there is a capture program that will let me take frames at that resolution with a Canon 550D/T2i?

EDIT: Will this be a good lens? : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ZM … d_i=507846 I know I will need an adapter for it.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

I don't think there are programs that CAPTURE in that res, but they will downsize it when editing it in a video editor, like monkeyjam or something.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

I really hope I'm going to be able to save more for my 550D. I've got a 'camera fund' at the moment, with about £135 I made at a boot fair (that was a pretty good one!). My birthday is also coming up so I hope to get a bit more towards it. Then I'll be able to use it with Dragon.

Just one question. I know the Kiss X4, Rebel T2i and the 550D are the same camera. But am I right in thinking that some cameras, although they have a different name for a different country, are slightly different with how they capture. Like for widescreen there's the PAL version for the UK and the NSTC for the US (correct me if I'm wrong). Because I found a Kiss X4 cheap, and new. Would it still be the same whatever the version (550D, T2i or Kiss X4) I got? Or would it not be as good to work with in England? I'm not sure if it's simply a name or if the name differences are there to stop people confusing which one will work in their country.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Yes, and you can always change if it captures in NSTC or PAL through settings, or a rendering software like dragon or sony vegas.

They just advertise it for the version the country uses, but they should support both. Also, I've never heard of the name Kiss X4 before... funny name.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

hi im new here and i have a question.
is the nikon d3100 a good choice for making stop motion videos?
and will it work with helium frog or other software?
I want the camera to use for photography and videos.
so is this a good choice?

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Guys,

If you are currently using a Canon DSLR for Stop Motion, could you please tell me if you experience any "flicker" issues?
If not, are you using the stock (kit) canon lenses?

On the Dragon Stop Motion site, they claim that with Canon camera's + canon lenses you might get flicker issues, due to the way Canon uses the aperture (or something like that). And I'm wondering how big of a problem this actually is.

Please let me know...

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

ok, in the lastest clip I've done I noticed some, it might not be because of the camera/ and or lenses but, I noticed some none the less...

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

What's the difference between the 60D and the T3i videowise?

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

OK, so I took the "DSLR leap".

Gear I bought:
- Used Canon EOS 1000D (body only).
- Lens adapter for EOS to M42 lens.
- Used "Pentacon" 2.8/29 manual lens.

Downloaded the trial version of Dragon Stop Motion for Mac...

Will show you some results soon...

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

That's the camera I have. I've been very pleased with it. I saw this thread a couple days ago, and I just did a short test with the kit lens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrN3wb0rjlg

It's hard to tell after the compression on youtube, but in the original frames the flicker is noticeable at f4 and just plain bad when it's stopped down to f22. I did short clip using the exact same lighting with my Nikon lens and didn't get one bit of flicker.

You'll totally love Dragon. I've had it for a while, but I haven't really used it much until this last week. It's awesome.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Guys...on the Canon website they have this program called the Canon Digital Learning Center which I have found to be extremely helpful in photography and videography with dslrs and more! Since I'm very interested live action stuff and hoping to get a Canon DSLR soon this proved to be very interesting.

that flicker was so bad the guy was speechless...
it doesn't look that bad actually...

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

I would recommend HDanimator its HD (obviously) and around 40 pounds (62 dollars) so it is cheaper than stopmotion dragon, or any of that stuff. : D
