Re: USA To pass bill to make video streaming illegal

Fairly good news. It looks as though the bill has stalled. President Obama has said he is against the current legislation, but would sadly be open to a "new" version. It looks like the only candidate for president right now who has actually come out fighting against it is Ron Paul. Keep on calling, emailing, and writting letters to your representatives and senators, let's show them we are a force to be reckoned with!

Re: USA To pass bill to make video streaming illegal

*Sort of off-topic* There was a bill passed not long ago where if you post anything on the internet that the government doesn't like, they can put you in prison without a sentence. Just warning everyone here. Also, Obama was appalled at it - but only because he thought it wasn't strong enough. mini/eek

Really? I heard that if he was in office by the time it goes through Congress and it passes, he would veto it. That's a pretty interesting strategy to get all the internet nerds to vote for him in November.

Re: USA To pass bill to make video streaming illegal

It's just lost a lot of support. In fact, both SOPA and PIPA are practically dead now:

Is it ethical to make a bunch of different gmail accounts so I can sign the petition more than once?

Looks like the online fear tactic worked.  I guess no one could go a day without Wikipedia.

For those of you out there who are not sure of what SOPA actually does, or for those who want specifics on what SOPA does: this video is great!

This is somewhat relevant in my opinion.

Although, this has kind of turned into a troll thread and we're not really even talking about the bill that was going to kill the internet. What were we talking about again? Excuse me? what?

Re: USA To pass bill to make video streaming illegal

SOPA is dead.

However, ACTA is perched on the horizon.
