Re: The grumpy animator room

Yeah, onion skinning has never proved useful to me. It just gets in the way.

I see no possible reason for it as opposed to HeliumFrog..

Because Onion Skinning is annoying.

Aww... :,) I agree.

Re: The grumpy animator room

I'd say there's a time and place for onion skinning... That's why there's a toggle switch mini/smile I like the instant playback in helium frog

Re: The grumpy animator room

I don't think onionskinning is annoying. I find it helpful when I accidenally bump my webcam and need to put it back where it was. Same thing with when I accidentally bump minifigs. It also helps keep the minifig in the center of the frame when doing a tracking shot. Onionskinning is only useful when you want something to stay still. For other things, like making sure the object you want to be focused on stays focused on when zooming, toggling is better.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Re: The grumpy animator room

I use onion skinning every time I animate.

Not for every frame, just now and then.

Without it, I have no idea how I would cope.

Re: The grumpy animator room

This is getting off-topic...

Re: The grumpy animator room

Not really, some people are grumpy about onion skinning, and other's are not. The ones that are not are trying to explain how it is useful.

Oh, man, started a new animation yesterday, I've been bumping the camera like crazy. D:

Re: The grumpy animator room

Just when you're setting up that perfect shot, and then BAM! SET BUMP! (This happened to me today.)

Re: The grumpy animator room

Whilst I was making 'The Magic of colour' I had one of my lamps on my floor reflecting light off a white bit of card onto the set. The lamp's very tall.
At one point I put my chair on the floor (I can't actually remember why I lifted it) but I accidentally put it down too hard. It wobbled, tipped over, and I think it knocked my camera and my lamp over. I caught the camera before it hit the ground, but the lamp hit the floor and the bulb cracked. My chair also fell back and smashed into my lego on my desk I think.
Luckily we had more bulbs, so I was able to continue, but it was still annoying.

You're pretty slick. Anyway, Magic of Colour was brilliant.

The most recent thing it to happen to me is working with AE and 1080p on a PC that's got 2 GB of RAM - not really recommended. It crashed about every 15 min and I lost progress. Often.

Re: The grumpy animator room

One time I made about 10 seconds of animation in blender which took about an hour and I not thinking closed the program forgetting Blender doesn't automatically ask you if you want to save he project like other programs do.

I had a similar thing happen to me once......I was just working on a short animation test, and it was like almost 90 degrees in my room. I was pretty upset because I wasn't getting anywhere with the animation because of the heat, So I decided to take a little break for a while. Bad mistake. When I came back to film, my cat had jumped up on my table and started to shove my camera off! Luckily, I have carpet so when the camera hit the ground, their wasn't a single thing broken! mini/lol

I'm working on getting my studio back up and running, so stay posted...

Re: The grumpy animator room

I finished animating, was walking away from my animating desk - and then all of a sudden I catch my foot in the Logitech 9000's USB, which resulted in a damaged camera and a dented ego.

Re: The grumpy animator room

I lost my first ever brickfilm when my mom told me to delete all the pictures I had on the family PC. (This was before  had my own.) Anyways, me being the inexperienced 10-year old I was, I didn't know I had to export my movie. Well, after I had deleted all the pictures, I realized that all that was left was a shell of the original film. mini/sad

I wasn't that mad but it was a 30 minute film that I had worked on the whole summer and I did get a little attached to it so yeah.

So yeah, I'm back from my mind.

Re: The grumpy animator room

I don't have many bad experiences, but back when I used Windows Movie Maker for editing, (not a practice I'd recommend,) I had been editing for about half an hour, and WMM crashed.  Of course, I hadn't though to save my work, so I would have to start all over.  This happened multiple times.

Re: The grumpy animator room

^That happened to me too! I was up all night making a brickfilm for a school project, and when I finally finished capturing all the frames (2,421 to be exact) I imported them into WMM. I finished editing the WHOLE film (FX, masking, voices, the whole enchilada) and then it crashed! The editing process (when WMM crashed) took me from 1:00AM to 5:00AM and the project was due at 7:00. Luckily they gave me a time extension! mini/eek

Thanks! Luckily the camera was on a tripod, so it didn't fall as quick as what it would have done if it was just on my table. I'm glad you liked my film!

Another bad thing happened to me while I was making my Septemberfest entry, 'The Magician's Hat'. I was spraying the water on the set, and quite a time into the animating I realised that the water had dripped behind the table a bit, and gone on my plugs. Lucky it was sprayed water (so it was drops), and I noticed before it got too much! I kept a carrier bag behind my desk after that. Thank god that was before I got my Macbook!

Wow, that is harsh. I salute you.

Re: The grumpy animator room

WMM takes forever! My advice: NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER use WMM!
