Is it just me or is Lego getting more expensive. take the pirates of the Caribbean sets for example

Yes. It's a global recession. Now get out of that rock you've been living under and get a job so you can afford these expensive toys.
The licensed themes like star Wars and POTC are especially expensive because they need to share the revenue with the people who copyright Star Wars and POTC.

Also why would people having less money make prices of things go up? It seems like a bad idea for a multinational company. (I can see why a small company would do it)
Yes, the prices are seriously getting crazy! I know people always try to defend TLG by bringing up the "licensing fee" argument but this one certainly isn't enough:
In Europe, the new Geonosian Starfighter set costs 40 euros. In the USA? 30 dollars I think. And the set got 150 parts! That's ridiculous. But I'll continue to buy it, one just has to look out for good deals. I don't buy any sets at all at MRSP because you can always (99%) get them cheaper at places like amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com, for example!
40 euros for 150 parts is a new emotional low for eager customers like me! 
But a lot of the non-lscened sets I've found are wonderfully priced. Like the Alien Conquests

All of that extra money ends up somewhere. Somewhere where it probably is being used to buy expensive wine and furs and cars and such. I think it's a bad idea too, but people are greedy.
I noticed that a lego castle that Lego was selling in 2009 was $100 and here in 2011 Lego is selling a police station that is like WAY smaller and with few big pieces(compared to the castle) for $100! LEGO definitely got way expensive there! It kinda agrivates me because I can't get as much sets now.
Yeah! Heck even city sets have got more expensive. I'm pretty sure you guys know about the 10 dollars/euros for 100 pieces, right?
The new bank set features 400 pieces and it's priced at 50 euros/dollars. With the harbour sets, it's even more extreme! I think the biggest one contains 550 pieces and they ask 80 euros/dollars for it! 80 euros for 550 pieces! Actually, you should get more bang for the buck the more you buy, not the other way round.
But oh well... sorry for the rant - you can't do anything about it.
The Lego Lighthouse has 517 pieces and it's only $40. I guess there are only ridiculuos prices on the popular things. Everybody loves LSW and Pirates, and City. But I seem to be the only one who likes ALien Conquest and Creator
You're not the only one. I like Alien Conquest. Creator is good for making houses and such.
The raised price is another reason for me not to get any licensed themes. From now on, I'm sticking to City, Kingdoms, Alien Conquest, Creator, and all the other original Lego themes.
To be honest I'm not buying any lego sets at all I simply can't afford it! I use my old lego bricks to build sets and the only thing that I bought recently was Brickarms weapons and a bunch of new lego minifigures (no sets whatsoever).
I'd rather buy a Terminator 7" T-800 action figure than spend the same cash for a little lego set which includes a few figures and 50 pieces... It's a mad world!

The company has less money. Therefore, to make up for the money they don't have, they have to charge higher prices. See?
The other problem is that LEGO is plastic, and plastic is made of oil. Have you seen the price of oil lately?
