well, i just got the canon 550D and got it set up with the EOS utility for remote capturing and it works fine. but helium frog doesn't recognize it. also, adobe premiere, onlocation, and lots of other programs don't recognize it. i'm just wondering if there's a way to get it to work with other programs besides the EOS utility. thanks

the EOS utility comes with the camera. it's a program that let's you do remote capturing.
i want to do remote capturing with helium frog or monkey jam, and the camera isn't being recognized
This camera cannot stream video to Helium Frog. You can only use cameras that can be used like a webcam in windows only.
The EOS utility is specifically written for the camera so will work to capture images.
There are some animation packages that do work with this camera, but they are not free. I think Stop Motion Pro is one.
You can trigger this camera to capture images alongside a webcam in Helium Frog. There is a macro driving facility in the software.
You could take the pictures, then upload them to monkeyjam (save the pictures in your documents then have the exposure sheet set to your documents, then go file>import>images) then just drag your images in and import them.

Yeah I would suggest Dragon Stop Motion it work great with Canon cameras. Go and download the 30 trial and see if it works with your camera.
I got the T2i....I use animatorHD for around a month now. Its 'quite' cheap at around 55 pounds
