Topic: Urgent question: can I mask a video into a video?

Hi,

I need to seek your advice once more, dear community. In the film I'm shooting, there's a plane with a moving airscrew/propellor to be animated. The difficult thing is: the airscrew/propellor is getting slower and slower, then stopping. Then starting again, getting slower, slower, stopping. And that is while the minifig in the cockpit moves!

So here's my question:
Is it possible to make to videos: an animation of the pilot moving in the cockpit, and a life-action one of the airscrew/propellor turning and then editing the two together in post production. I mean, like, that in the end I've got ONE video with both the airscrew/propellor turning and the animated minifig moving.

Possible? If yes, how time expensive?

Thanks in advance

EDIT: What I originally meant by "masking video" is that I wouldn't have to mask all the frames, but rather mask the video directly into the video. You know, similar to putting a video into a chroma key video.

Blu-tac? Sellotape? My initial reaction to something unwanted moving is to stick it down.

EDIT: Tru dat, WTA. I'm silly.

I think you have the wrong idea, Hazzat.

Why do you want the minifig moving while the propellor is turning? Wouldn't it look just fine with just the propellor moving? Also, it's not impossible to animate two thing at once. It might be a little harder and would take some practice, but it'll probably be easier than masking a video into a video. If the only way to do that is mask individual frames, then that would be hard.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Put a small electric fan off camera, but in front of your plane.
You'll have to set it on high, but it actually works!

Re: Urgent question: can I mask a video into a video?

Thanks for all your input guys.

The problem with the scene is that the minfig is trying to restart the engine but it doesn't really work. You know, it moves a bit but then comes to a halt and so on. In the meantime, the pilot pulls the velocity lever, up and down, you know what I mean?

@ZP: Great idea! Then I would really have to mask the two vids into one another, though... which might be clever because it'd certainly look fabulous.

I guess I should just take more practice animating a propellor... and then decide on this. But please, I'm open and thankful to all your input! mini/smile

It would work with Sony Vegas Pro or another video editing program with masking capabilities.
