Re: What was the last movie you watched?
Equilibrium
I think it was a good movie, even if at parts the story didn't looked credible...I guess it reach at least a 7/10 rating from me...

Ninja Assassin
The fight scenes are amazing in this movie. I give this movie 4/5.
Warning: The movie is not for people who doesn't like much blood and violence...Seriously. ![]()

The Fabulous Mr. Fox (how appropriate considering it is a stop motion)

Isn't it "Fantastic" Mr. Fox?

Junebug
My mom got it. It ticked me off that it was an incredibly static movie with nothing I enjoyed. Nothing happened, nothing changed.
Dr. Strangelove or: How I stopped worrying and loved the bomb
This movie was great. I think it lost some of it's relevance by time, but it was still good. The subtle jokes in this were hilarious. I'd definitely watch it again.
War Dance
Great Documentary. It's about a northern Ugandan refugee camp who, in the heart of the war-zone, go into a music competition. A thought provoking and interesting film. Very sad, but then very happy. great movie.
UP
While it didn't totally blow me away, I thought it to be quite funny and cute. And of course the animation was amazing. It was also rather deep for a kid's movie.

Grrr.

Yes, again.

Animation ≠ Kids. Just ask the hundreds (thousands?) of parents who've made that mistake and gotten their kids an NC-17 anime. Kids movies imply stuff like Dora the Explorer, in my opinion. I prefer the term "family film" for stuff like what comes from Pixar.

I've actually never heard of that happening, though it does sound rather hilarious in a terribly awkward way. I pretty much agree with you, though.

Welcome to the wonderful world of independent cinema. I want to see that film, though; the score is by Yo La Tengo.

Heh, I just wrote an essay on Dr. Strangelove for my English Composition class. It's one of my favorite films, and one of the most effective satires I've ever seen.
Haticho, a film based on a true story on how a dog loved its master so much that it greeted him at the train station. But when the master dies, the dog waits on the train station for years.
And Barefoot Gen, a Japanese anime story on how a young, 6 year old boy survived the explosion of the bombs on hiroshima and nagasaki with his mother.

Barnyard: The Original Party Animals
Wow. This movie made me laugh about 20 times for some really strange reason. The outrageous-ness of this movie really made me laugh.

Wow, that was like a week ago already.
Singin' in the Rain - Oldie, but a goodie. Highly amusing, very well done, understandable why it's a classic, though by today's standards it's laughably silly. Seriously, the 10-minute pointless IMAGINARY tap dance scene was ridiculous. The way the scene is introduced also feels exactly like the way the movie creators must've thought.
"How much of the movie is done?"
"Most of it, we just need an intro sequence. I was thinking of something like..."
[ 10 minute dance sequence ]
"What do you think about that?"
I did watch some short films in the Youtube Screening Room.
Le Mozart des Pickpockets (Mozart of the Pickpockets)
A Canadian short film. Not too shabby, but not too impressive either. There is some reasonable witty dialogue in this, but overall it doesn't leave a very deep and lasting impression. The story just doesn't feel complete either, and the film conveys no particular message, other than that pickpockets can use children to pickpocket better. Although there is a certain chemistry between the two adult men, their story is incomplete as well.
It is well shot, and it's enjoyable, though, so if you're passing by the Screening Room, give it a watch.
Madame Tutli-Putli
Stop motion animators, watch this movie and be awed. It is virtually the best stop-motion animation that I have ever seen in my life and I'm sure everyone will have to agree. The story borders on a spiritual message about living your life without fear, but it doesn't rub it in your face. Instead it's eerie, creepy, atmospheric and one hell of a ride. The animation could have been put to use in a movie that tells a somewhat more compelling and clear story than that of the titular character, but still it works and succeeds in being a beautiful cinematographic experience. Even if you don't really get what's going on, you'll still be mesmerized by this lively character, a character that has so much spirit and personality.
Recommended, recommended, recommended.
