Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

1: KimGolitch - I really really like that shot. The colors are nice, and although I still can't quite tell what it is supposed to be, it seems to portray the theme well.

2: Sythean - While the first shot seems a bit meh-ish to me, the lighting in the second one is great, and gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

3: Filmyguy - Although the lighting and quality is good, it seems a bit overly simple, and the baseplate abruptly ending into a white expanse doesn't seem to work well with it.

4: T.G Tom -  I find it hard to judge 3D renderings, as they never look as good as the real thing, and people seem to put a lot of effort into them. While I like the sky, the flowers in the field seem a bit off to me, and the hair on the minifigure just doesn't look right from the perspective of the shot.

Your go, Kim!

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

Yay! Oh and Spudster, my shot was supposed to be a Tibetan monk meditating at a monastery high in the mountains.

Anyway, the new theme is:
The Quest

Have fun with it.

It was very simple! If you saw the setup, you wouldn't believe how lazily it was put together.
And I was holding the tree up with my hand out of frame btw.
I feel terrible that I forgot to add more to the set, I could have at least put some shrubbery around there darn it! /slaps head
Also, I was originally planning on bluescreening a background but I was too lazy and I thought it looked good enough. I agree with you all the way.
I'm going to take my time to make my next entries perfect. Nice theme, Kim!

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

I thought the shot was in sequence too, especially with the whole The Embarking..., The Travel…, The Town…, The resting… and The End. thing going on. They're nice shots though.

What kind of camera are you shooting with, or what are you shooting through? The focus seems a little weird in some shots, and there seems to be some ripples in the shot similar to glass ripples, and some weird smudges that look pre-production. I'd be interested to see if you're shooting through something and what it is if you are.

The focus on that last shot is pretty weird, neither the gun nor the person is in focus, just two random patches of dirt with blur between them.

...Sorry mum.

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

yeah most of the shots I screwed up on, not my best work by far. I was taking the shots on a very sunny day, which made the lighting look good, but I couldn't see the screen very well on my canon powershot A530. Some of it is subtle, because in none of the shots you can see the traveler's face. The water shot, that's real water in a stream, a stream that leads to a lake. So this shot was extremely risky, I almost dropped the camera in, and the minifig could have slid into the lake. luckily it didn't mini/lol . The lost shot was hard, for some reason my camera would NOT focus on the gun. I couldn't keep the right distance I wanted, so I just threw it in there. the glares appeared from the sun too.

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

I'm gonna close this up in a day or two so anyone who still wants to enter do it now. And NOS, do you want me to judge what you did as one entry or as separate entries?

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

This thread doesn't have half the life it used to. Not to antagonize Night Owl but it stopped happening after he remixed it.

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

I like it I just didn't like the theme

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

I like the thread just not the theme it's kind of hard to depoct quest with a single frame. Maybe a new theme would revive it a bit.

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

Okay, well I guess I'll hand it over to NOS then even though I'm not sure how I'm meant to judge his entry/s. I quite like all of them, but some seem to have strange focus, and even though you said that they're separate entries, I feel that they do actually work better as a sequence.
Now it's up to you to come up with a better theme.

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

I'm not saying there is nothing wrong with the thread. There is no life to it, like we used to get 15 or more entries.

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

I remember when this thread rocked, and there really were some awesome shots around...any chance of a whole new thread to breathe some life into this?

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

ugh. I wish some people would get off they're lazy butts and actually put some effort and bring this thread back to life. I remember on the refugee camp when this thread was awesome, and you actually achieved something if you won. Now it's just gone terrible.

Anywho, the new theme is: Identity . Be creative.
