Topic: Resolution Error!

I noticed while testing today that my resolution for my camera was too low, so I fixed it to 640x480 and now my animation is really choppy, I think it even skips frames. I use Monkey Jam and shoot with a logitech camera. How can I make it run smooth? mini/blankexpression

Re: Resolution Error!

Hmmmmm...intresting. I would say mabye the file size is big, so your editing/veiwing program dosen't load it completely, so it turns out more jerky. Youtube, my editing program, Windows Media Player, they all have that problem.

Re: Resolution Error!

Many editing softwares have problem processing uncompressed AVI files. WMM is a major suspect, even Vegas is suspectable sometimes.

Re: Resolution Error!

It's your computer, I put my resolution up to 640x480 too, and now it always plays choppy on my computer.
The reason is because you don't have a fast enough processor.

Don't be fooled, my avatar is a facade of conformity.

Re: Resolution Error!

thanks guys, Fib was right, but duke boy, how did you solve your problem? mini/smile

Re: Resolution Error!

Even the fastest computers will have trouble playing back uncompressed data. Its not your processor thats the cause as this  decodes most video easily in real time during all video playback. The problem is most likely the transfer rate from your hard drive as it streams the file.

To overcome this some editors have whats called a RAM disk. Computer memory is allocated and the frames are pre loaded there. Playback is then smooth as its arriving at the processor from RAM. Adobe After Effects has such a setup as do others. It enables playback of short sections without problems even with high resolution uncompressed frames.

If your captured frames are Bitmaps, you can also convert them to high quality jpegs before importing them to your editor. you wont notice the quality difference, but the file size is much smaller and helps playback speed. The file sizes can be about 5% of the size.

If your importing video into an editor you could also try lossless compression to reduce the file sizes.  HuffYuv is a free one thats quite good (Just Google for it)
