Re: What was the last movie you watched?
It's not that the plot is hard to understand. I find the opposite to be true; it just reaches its goal too easily.

I haven't seen Citizen Kane yet, but I will sometime this year. I did see A touch of Evil. I liked it, but not in a way that I thought it was the best movie ever.

Absoloutey lovey, and amazing, you can tell Tim Burton hd a huge part in this, not just his name slapped on a fim.
Tim Burton had a quite small part in this, and even if it was him I didn't think it was his best
Just what I was about to say, although I haven't seen the movie itself. I have, however, seen the short movie by Shane Acker that it was based on. Not sure how well it translated to the big screen and the big length, but the atmosphere seems highly similar - its futuristic post-apocalypse theme, at least, is not Burton's prestation - but he probably pressed his stamp on the movie overall. The fact that the movie breathed "Tim Burton" to you, probably does indicate why Burton was interested in being its producer.
I recommend watching the original "9" on youtube to anyone, btw

Also, isn't it funny that two very recent movies, both featuring the word "nine" in their titles (9 and District Nine), were both basically elongated short films? (9 and Alive in Joburg, respectively)
Yeah, the original short is pretty sweet as well.
And it is interesting, all the nines this year. Nine isn't even out yet.

Alphaville by Jean-Luc Godard
I am currently in a Godard mood. I bought a DVD collection with 12 of his finest movies, so hence my overload of Godard movies.
The film itself is well done. I wouldn't say it is Godard's best but definitely one of his better ones. The theme is some sort of mix between Film Noir and Sci-Fi. The setting for the movie is Alphaville, but in reality this were the modern areas of Paris. Godard creates a Fritz Lang Metropolis like city, a dark and grim place where the characters lose themselves in modernism.
The acting was really good and I really liked Anna Karina in this one, clearly Godard's muse. This film reminded me of how beautiful she really is.
I did love the original short films to both 9 and District 9 as much as their big screen counterparts.
I easily get bored with films lately,
You need more action in your diet.

Pierrot le Fou by Jean-Luc Godard
Pierrot le Fou is one Godard's more famous films. And it should be. I think it is one of his best as well. The style is a summary of all his previous films, so you can say that this is the end of Godard's first period. It is Nouvelle Vague at its best. Jumpcuts, characters talking in the camera and lots of improvisation. I love it. Also the acting was brilliant. Belmondo was great, but the star of this film was Anna Karina. I absolutely adore her! Great film!
Up
Totally exceeded my expectations. Beautiful film... just beautiful. The opening montage was a masterpiece of cinematography.

Wow. The colours, the animation, the story, all great and beautiful. From an outside point of view the two kinky main characters might live in a terrible world, but they deal with it and just live. Very naive, but absolutely positive view on everything. Full of wanted and unwanted jokes. Lots of laughing. Sometimes you just need films like this to cheer yourself up.

Double 0Your Mom
Best movie ever. Especially nice cinematography when Your Mom threw the grenade at Johnny and he was like "WHAT THE FU-"*BOOM*
The Matrix
Profound movie.
Awesome fight scenes, really epic all around.

Vertigo
Would you believe that this is the first Hitchcock film I've ever seen? I've heard a lot of good things about this guy's films, and I wasn't disappointed. Sure, I saw a couple things coming, but I wasn't any less surprised. I loved how classic everything was, from the music to the acting, which is a thing I miss in the films of today, but I guess each era has it's own style.
Revolutionary Road
Intense. Incredible acting by everyone.
Also another profound movie, I wasn't really crazy about the story though.

Vertigo is my favourite Hitchcock. The ending really freaked me out.
Pineapple Express
This movie has some really freaking hilarius moments, especially most of the conversations
James Franco was really great as a stoner, it was really hilarius to watch him perform
Although they could have maybe alterd the ending a bit, it had some huge holes in the story and some stuff just didn't make sense. this guy get shot 7 times, get blown up in a farm, and COMES OUT with freaking nothing. It was kinda weird but.... !@#$ life
Seth Rogan is a great comedian, one of the few latest good american comedians, most think they are the best (I'm looking at you Ben Stiller).
3,5/5 Pineapple Express joints.
