Topic: Help With Shopping...

Hey, everybody.

If you've ever seen one of my films, you'll know that my sets are pretty suckish, mainly because I don't have that many bricks. Well, I've got $100 bucks to blow on LEGO so I was wondering if you guys could help me out.  What colours/pieces are most useful specifically for building amazing sets?

Re: Help With Shopping...

I like these pieces:

Re: Help With Shopping...

I'd say some of these http://img.bricklink.com/P/85/6083.gif
Go to Lego.com and go to the creator section and look up how to make columns
Also some slopes for roofs
Trees and bushes
2x4's for grass or just flooring
look up how like the green grocer is made for some interesting wall ideas
Pivot peices for bay windows
Nice doors and windows

Re: Help With Shopping...

You may also want some flat tiles for roads and stuff, or just get some road baseplates.
Also, just buying a brick tub or two is not a bad idea to add up the number of legos you have.

Re: Help With Shopping...

I think you should go to Bricklink and bulk buy rare-ish colours, like medium blue, dark red and other colours that make great walls, in 1x4, 1x2 and 1x6. And maybe some other pieces that catch your eye along the way.

Re: Help With Shopping...

I love the dark red, dark blue and dark green bricks.
Brown and dark green go pretty good with grey.
A very effective are those brick walls (picture) and detailed windows (link).
You really should spend a lot of set designing time in details. Remember to create your set "natural". Build things, that you expect to be in a room.
Youst look through the "set design" thread mini/wink

Re: Help With Shopping...

I think you get white gray and red pieces wiht you used in the game:)

Re: Help With Shopping...

Ah crap!!! Strangely steinzeit, I had that same idea this morning! Didn't know it was taken. mini/sad

Re: Help With Shopping...

Light and dark gray. They are perhaps some of the best colors to use. But if you already have a lot (like me) you can get some softer shades of colors, like tan, light or dark blue, different shades of green, and so on.

Re: Help With Shopping...

Haha, I have $100 to spend to. I think that maybe spend it on rare(er) colors, or buy some good minifigs. I saw a lego bin containing 5000( mini/eek ) lego bricks in my local Canadian Wal-mart for I think $50. I might get that. I think you should just get some bricks for sets and stuff....

But, IDK mini/wink

Persist.

Re: Help With Shopping...

Get several brick buckets. I got one this summer, and it helped ALOT.
In fact, the film I am currently working on consists of only pieces from that!

Blow on LEGO? Do you mean like this?

Try to stay away from anything to harsh. Avoid reds, bright greens, yellows. Go with something general, like White or Gray. Bley is hard to come by, but looks very nice too. Black is OK, but tends to reflect -- a big no-no for brickfilming (greenscreening problems, seeing your own lens). Tan bricks are easier to find then Bley, but you still gotta look. Tan will come out nice, too.

Hope it helps!

Think out side the brick.
