Topic: I'm looking for image gallery script / software - know any?

Well, I hope someone out there can help me:

I've started taking more photos lately and I've been wanting to share them. I've set up a fairly basic gallery (see here) which is esentially just a table of thumbnails linked to an image display page.

Since I'm in the middle of a site re-build, I figured I would try and get something a little more functional available. What I want to do is install a script or software package that will let me manage the photos but also put them in categories (such as "outside", "the cat", "family" and so on), and also being able to put the same photo in several categories (so my brother outside holding the cat would get all three categories).

I don't have a problem generating my own thumbnails and uploading them (generating thumbnails seems to be the main selling point for most of the programs I've looked at). I'm not interested in selling the photos. I'm not interested in having multiple users and letting others upload their photos. I'd rather avoid web-based uploads and prefer to ftp the photos themselves, but an admin section for adding categories seems logical.

I'd write the code out myself but I'm not too good with MySql queries.

Anyone have any experiences with any image galleries or scripts? Or can point me in the direction of a decent tutorial?

I'm not sure about software... you can always make a slide show and upload it to a file hosting site for us to download..  http://wareseeker.com/Graphic-Apps/jpg- … zip/300453 <== Try that. I'm not sure if its any good or not, as I don't have the software, I don't need it! mini/lol

Also, Those pictures are very nice. I like the one with "LEO" written in lights on the picnic table.. How did you do that? My guess is 3 people and flashlights? mini/lol

To be.. Or not to be.. That ain't the question at the moment..

Pretty much, yeah. Except that it was only me. Same trick as grabbing a burning stick out of the fire and waving it about. Just set the exposure time on the camera (how long it "looks" at what is in front of it) for 30 seconds and then wave the torch around.

Your suggestion isn't much good to me. However, I was pointed towards a program called Coppermine which has been working out quite well so far. Now I just need to learn to use it in order to get the most out of it...

Ok, the problem is that today the image-galleries are build for such things like admin-gallery, user-uploads, etc...
Some of them are coppermine and 4images. Both galleries are great galleries, and at least you can dis-allow the user upload, so that only you (admin) can upload pics in the gallerie.

But you talked about smaller scripts. and you like ftp-uploads, and you don´t hate to generate preview-thumbs.
(by the way, 4images and coppermine do it for you).
So the last and only thing we talk about is the "categories". This is the easyest way to do:
just copy/paste a html/php page, rename it, include the link into the main-page, and thats all.

At least you can use for this "galery"-script the "lightbox 1.0", so the pictures will well open in the middle of the page.
And if you dislike to create all the code for the preview-page you can create/search for a script wich reads/show the images in an choosen folder by itself.
