No this is not a casting call! I have lately been having trouble recording voices for my films, they are just too quiet! The only way I have found so far is to yell into the mic, causing the voices to sound unnatural. It used to work fine. Some help please?

Go into Edit/Audio Properties and click Volume under Sound Recording. Make sure that the checkbox under Microphone is checked and the volume is set at a high enough level, preferably all the way up. If Microphone doesn't show up, from that screen go into Options/Properties and check it there, which should make it appear on the previous screen. This works for XP. If you have Vista (
), I'm not sure.
If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas.
Try upping the mic sensitivity a good amount. Its ok if it comes out too loud, you can make it lower.

FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE HAS A BRAIN
It may well be that some application has switched / changed your default 'audio in' selection.
If your mic was working before, it may be that something has changed it over to another audio in device.
In the options settings of your audio program make sure that the sound source is set to your mic.
Also try switching over to Audacity, it is a much better sound recording program and it is free to use.
