----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome, to the second annual BRAWL (Brickfilm Rapidly All Week
Long) competition. The goal of this contest is to make a
brickfilm, going through the entire process from start to
finish, in a week or less.

Deadline

You have until 9 AM EST on August 30th, 2009 to complete
your film.
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/f … amp;p1=861 Here is a
list of when this deadline is in other time zones. If you
send in your film early, you may NOT post it online until
the deadline has passed.

Theme/Mod information

The theme of this contest is "Thought". You may interpret
the theme any way you want. Your film could be as simple as a
comedy about someone's stupid decision, or as complex as an in-
depth philosophical exploration of human behavior. Any story
goes, as long as it fits in with the theme. How well your story
relates to the theme will play a part in how the judges score
your film in the Story category.

For this contest, there are two mod elements, a color mod and a
letter mod. You do not have to use both of them. Just
make sure that at least one of them is present in
every shot
of your film. Camera movements (such as pans
and zooms) count as part of a shot, as long as the camera angle
of the shot does not change
. So if you decide to have a
camera movement in your film, the mod element must be clearly
visible during at least part of the movement
. During a shot,
if something temporarily blocks the mod element, you will
not be disqualified, as long as the mod element is seen
in it's entirety at least once in the shot. You
can use any combination of the mod elements, as long as one is
noticeable and visible in every shot.

The color mod is a blue LEGO piece connected to a
red LEGO
piece. It MUST be a LEGO (or similar; Mega Blok,
Best-Lock, etc.) piece connected to another LEGO piece; it
cannot simply be two colors that are touching on screen or marks
on a piece of paper. Any LEGO piece (including minifigure
parts
) may be used to create the color mod, as long as it is
either blue or red. Baseplates are the exception to this
rule. Baseplates may not be used as part of the mod element. The
shade of blue or red does not matter as long as it is
distinguishable as a shade of yellow or red while on screen.

The letter mod is the letter "M". It does have to be
portrayed as a "M", it must simply be in the shape of a "M". It
may be rotated any number of degrees, hidden in the
architecture of the set, etc. Other symbols that take the
basic shape
of the letter "M" are also acceptable. However,
any symbol that contains more the shape of the letter "M" is not
acceptable.

Submission

Submit your films to [email protected]. Include the names of
everyone who worked on the film, and include a link to the small
version of the film (5 megabytes per minute or less).

There must be a minimum of 30 seconds of stop-motion
animation in your film. Any other type of filming (CGI, Live
Action, etc) can also be used to supplement the stop-motion, but
it must not be the main focus.

Hosting

I will not be able to provide any hosting of films. However,
there are several sites you can use, such as Brickshelf,
Mediafire, Megaupload, etc. YouTube is not an acceptable
host, as your film must remain private until the contest
deadline has passed.

Questions

If you have any questions, email me at [email protected]. I
will be checking my email periodically throughout the first day
of the contest, and then a few times a day after that.

Happy Brickfilming!

Don't start filming yet guys. I just found out that I accidentally came up with the same mods that THAC 6 had. I'll change them within the next few minutes.

I saw that, I thought that was weird and/or unoriginal...

Okay, effective immediately, the letter mod is "M" and the color mod is blue and red (Thanks to Hazzat for coming up with both of those, by the way). The theme is still the same, however.

Carry on!

Re: Brawl 2009 Has Ended! (Results in First Post)

I haven't even been able to finish a film for a contest in a 6-8 month period, but one sketchy idea I had was a 30-60 second short, which I might have a go at, even though it's the middle of the chool term here and I have an assignment due on Tuesday next week...

Re: Brawl 2009 Has Ended! (Results in First Post)

Awesome!

I have an idea for an epic sci-fi Frankenstein film, but I feel like making a medieval film, though I cant find an idea that will fit the theme

First though, I'm gonna do a few tests this afternoon to get me back into animating...
