Nikon Macros are on the expensive side. So expensive, you could just buy a Powershot and finish. But you won't. Because you have a Nikon. And you know you're better than them.

Sorry about that. In the US, I'd go to B&H Photo, but you're in the UK, right?

If you truly want the cheapest "alternative", I would suggest going to Instructables and looking at the various homebrew macro(ish) lens techniques and builds there, especially things like the DIY Reversal Lens Macro Rig.
I use a macro filter, that helps. Any way my G9 can focus in until it touches the minifig. AND THAT IS A COMPACT CAMERA, A D60 YOU BE ABLE DO IT AS IT IS A DSLR.

the D60 can't focus in from 6 inches away i usually have to put it back a litttle for my shots
