the head is to wide. the best way to start is to look at the head and find basic shapes:
The top of the head is a circle and the jaw is an upside-down triangle with a rectangle overlapping the tip. the you go step by step to go through a the details.
I first thought it was Super Mario xD

I think the gap between his face and his ears is a bit too large.

Thanks for the tips on my sketch livinglego and Hazzat. I can see now that his face should be skinnier.

I've still got a lot of work to do on the boat.

It looks good nailer but the boat is not very contrasting against the ocean so its hard to see
