there are the system specs.

from just looking at them I can say that it will handle audacity. probably virtual dub but very slowly. Not sure about axogon composer. I think that I used to run it  (years back) when I was running on a P3 1ghz processor and if that was the case then this can certainly handle it. Not sure about monkeyjam, I've never used it. and is the pro9000 USB, if it is then see if you have a USB port. chances are, it will work.

now for upgrading it. don't waste your money. seriously. you'd have to get a new motherboard, processor, ram, and most likely hard drive. PLUS you'd have to figure out how to get them in a dell laptop case... its much much more economical to get a new one.

I'd give it a try first and if nothing else hang on to that system and use it as your script writing laptop. (even though it weighs like 8 pounds.)

being in college without a laptop sucks, take it from me, a simple word processing workhorse will do you wonders down the road.

Re: PC Upgrade

okay
thanks
is there a way i can increase the RAM on it
also is there just something i can buy to make it faster when running internet programs

Re: PC Upgrade

Crucial Memory does CHEAP high quality RAM. Linky to Inspiron 1100 RAM.

Re: PC Upgrade

Office Depot sells sticks up RAM that plug right in on the CPU motherboard. I'd go with the highest amount of RAM you can afford. The more RAM, generally, the faster the computer will run. It probably would be a good idea to also upgrade the memory. This can be done easily by just buying an external hard drive and saving all of your files on that instead of on the computer's hard drive.

And if you are going to be using this compy for filming stuff, I would recomend NOT running the internet on it because Temporary Internet Files and such take of a LOT of space and CPU time to process in the background.

Other than that, good luck with your new, old PC! mini/smile

Re: PC Upgrade

alight thanks
how much RAM should i get and where can i buy it and install it??

Re: PC Upgrade

To run Monkey jam you don't need any more than 50mb of ram to run it so I wouldn't waste my money on extra unless your applications are slow. But if you do still want to buy some you can get this which has a lifetime warranty on it. http://cgi.ebay.com/51MB-DDR-PC2700-SOD … 1|294%3A50 Also, are you going to try to run your nikon d60 with monkey jam? Because I don't think it will work since it hooks up via mini usb.

Re: PC Upgrade

Uhm.

You can only stick 1 gig in that thing, You'll have to find 2 512 MB sticks to put in.  You probably can't do much with that except for normal browsing and monkyjam.  512 MB is the minimum requirement for Vista.

You have to open up the computer and find the RAM slots. It should hopefully have some upgradable memory slots. The RAM stick(s) you buy will come with instructions on how to install it.
