I made I really bad claymation when I was like 10.(with my dad's help) At the end I thought it was the greatest thing ever. I watched that animation over and over because I was so proud of it. About a year later I thought I would make another one. It was slightly better than the first one but, again, at the time I thought it was so much better than the first one and thought it was the greatest. Then, once I was able to animate without the help of my dad I thought of what else I could animate, other than clay. I thought and thought and finally though of an "original" idea of animating with legos. I thought I was so smart for thinking up an idea like that. so i made my first "lego animation". Yet another time I did not realize that it was horrible compared to other brickfilms because I didn't know there were any other brickfilms. I continued makeing these animations and the pattern continued. After each brickfilm I thought It was the greatest thing ever and better than any other animation i had seen ( mine) untill... www.brickfilms.com
I my first thought was "hey there's a name for this other than 'stop-motion animation using legos'" then I thought "hey I'm not the only one in the universe who brickfilms." Then after watching some brickfilms I thought, "hey, some of these brickfilms are realy good." I realized that the only reason that I enjoyed my brickfims was because I made them. They were not that good them selves. Except at the time I didn't worry about that so much.
Eventully i realized that the family's digital camera was not good for animations. I was trying to make good animations like I saw on brickfilms.com but it was old, broken, and horrable at focusing. Eventully descuraged, I gave up on brickfilming for a while.
I had other hobbys then. Origami, card making, clay sculpting. I thought I was really into these untill I got tired of getting supplies for them. Once I used one thing it was used up. I had to go buy another. I still enjoy these hobbys sometimes but not alot.
Just lately my dad go a webcam. I didn't think much of it at first until I remembered that you could animate with a webcam. Excited, I tried it out. I was impressed with how much easier it was than with a digital camera. I also reallized that I could animate all I wanted and without buying supplies.
I now know that equipment isn't everything. You could have all of the most expensive camera and software, but that doesn't make the animation good, or the story.
I still wan't to make an animation as good as some of the cool ones I have seen on brickfilms and BiM but I feel that that is far away.
But every time I animate I get beter, and every time I learn something new.
That is why I animate
