Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Somehow the premise doesn't grab me...

Eh, it's a bit more complicated than that, but it's more interesting if you go in knowing only as little as LB told you.
The story has some pretty strong sci-fi elements. I think you would like it Leo, but then I'm not you, so I could be wrong mini/wink

Dead Man

I saw it the second time, this time in a theater. I love it completely. Really amazing.

The people in the theater were awesome too; they laughed at the right places, and everybody watched the whole credits.

I don't believe I've ever seen a comedy with so much drama, some parts made me tear up, It was really sad. But anyway, it was a great film, definitely will be added to my DVD collection.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Prestige

Ok, I watched it last night. Technically, it's a pretty cool film. The acting was, in my opinion, better all around than the Illusionist. I appreciated the visual style as well as the non-linear storytelling. It's actually a tribute to the director that I never got lost in all of twists and turns and timelines.

Overall, though, I was left thinking, "Wow, what a really sad and depressing movie." I mean, it's just these two magicians wasting their lives (And the lives of the people around them) trying to outdo each other. In the end, [spoiler] one of them wins. End of film. Roll out the credits.

Aha! I was right about it sort of being a sci-fi story. If I hadn't been expecting that, I probably would have been ticked off by the [spoiler] cloning machine twist. It's kind of unbelievable, but for some reason I liked it. I also managed to pick the [sigh, another spoiler] Borden/Fallon double before the end.

So, in conclusion, the film is cool enough for me to watch it again and take notes on the scene structure. Still, I felt let down by the lack of theme/moral. It reduced an otherwise great film to a sequence of events that I didn't really care much about. Cool film. Needs some heart.

Overall, a very enjoyable film.

My only gripe was the moral: "If at first you dont suceed: Get more men"

The whole concept of a small, underestimated group of men kicking thousands of Persian ass was one that made the movie stand out to me - untill the last 20 seconds of the movie. Stupid Spartans...

Now if you exuse me, I'm off to DINE IN HELL!

Greatness.

Edward Scissorhands

Great Dark/fairytale movie by Tim burton, Johnny Depp again in a weird role but still a brilliant actor.

Pirates Of The Carribean: Dead Man's Cheast

to epic and confusing mini/confused Black Pearl keeps being the ruling POTC

some moments were really unrealistic. Like when Jack Sparrow falls down hundreds of meters from the top of the hill to the ground (also falling trough wooden bridges) and just smacking against the ground and getting up again withouth a scratch. And also, fire falls on the ground and mysterioulsy spells a name, and yes, no explanation on how the bloody hell that happened mini/confused .

He's Jack Sparrow. What did you expect?

Is it really that difficult to understand? Elizabeth pours rum on the deck so it spells "Tortuga" and knocks over a lamp so it's visible.

The Truman Show.

Best movie ever.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3

Kept me at the edge of my seat, didn't particularly like the slow-motion bits.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Heh, every time I see that name, I read The Taking of Phlegm 123.

I just watched that again as well. I don't think it's THE best, but it's definitely up there. I'm surprised that it's not on IMDB's top 250 list. Then again, IMDB isn't exactly the greatest ranking of general awesomeness...

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

My friend just got back from MCRD and he hadn't seen Star Trek yet... ya I'm such a nerd.

Star Trek

Third time's a charm.  And in IMAX, too.  *maybe spoilerz*

I noticed even more things this time around, but surprisingly I was more tolerant of the lens flare.  I've come to realize that I can't complain about the relationship between two of the crew members that wasn't in the original series, because it's an alternate reality.

So yeah.

Double Indemnity

No wonder this is a classic, Billy Wilder certainly knows how to make a movie. The story, acting, and dialogue was fantastic. Excellent film.

Up

I thought it was really good. I like the direction Pixar is taking their films, moving into more mature adult themes while still keeping it friendly for all ages. The beginning was easily the best part.

A lot of my friends watched Up and also said that it was very good. I'm looking forward to watching it
