Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Terminator Salvation

Twas good. The only thing is in my opinion, they over-did shaking the camera, I couldn't even tell what was happening at all a few times. Although, I was in the fourth row from the front... but I still think it was too much. Also, CGI wasn't realistic enough for me.
It was a good film though, I enjoyed it. I still wish Hollywood would come out with something original though, enough with the sequels.

O'Horten

A very funny and nice Norwegian film. If you ever get the chance to see this you should.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I saw the trailer for that. It does look interesting.

A Woman Under the Influence

I loved the acting so much; it's a little long, and I'm not sure how I feel about the last part of the film, but the whole thing is pretty ingenious. Hilarious and terrifying at the same time.

Up

I can't write a review that will do this justice, so I will just say that it was a great movie, and now I have a tie between Wall•E and Up for first in my favorite Pixar films list.

Now, it's time to start saving up for the DVD.

The Uninvited

Aaaaugh! mini/madhead This movie frustrated me so much, the lack of common sense displayed throughout the movie baffled me, it seemed like the filmmakers just didn't want to satisfy the audience.

Spoiler (click to read)

The surprise ending, IMO, was dumb and very similar to the Johnny Depp Movie, "The Secret Window".  I like surprise endings, but I just hate it when the protagonist ends up to be the killer all along. I mean, why build up your confidence in the main character just to smash it to tiny bits?

Spudster, you would despise The Number 23 then.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The number 23 wasn't a great movie.

I actually kind of liked The Number 23. But that's mostly because I love seeing people who are all paranoid and conspiracy-ish about everything.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I just watched Spirit of the Beehive, it has an ethereal dream like quality that I lost myself it.

Michael Clayton

Watching complex movies like this a second time is so much fun, you get to see all of the plot pieces come together, and even pick up on little details you might have missed before. Again, great film, great performances.

Oh man, wait till you see 2001 or There Will Be Blood. Nothing is more amazing than a beginning with no dialogue.

I agree, having no dialog for the first few minutes of a film can create an interesting effect.  I originally had some dialog at the beginning of my current project but realized it worked better without it, now the first dialog is probably 3-4 minutes in.

Wow, I love that film! I was certainly surprised to see it mentioned here. You're watching a lot of movies I like these days, haha.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

TheAuteurs.com shows free Criterion films every month (they show different films based on your region), one of them was Cría Cuervos and I just had to see another film with Ana Torrent.  I really liked Spirit of the Beehive and may buy the DVD.  The next European art house film I'm planning on seeing is The Decalogue (I loved Trois couleurs)

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Ana Torrent is so enchanting in that film that it's so hard not to completely care about her character. I really felt devastated when I thought she might die at the end.

What were your thoughts on it after seeing Days of Heaven? They both have a similar style I think, though Days is more of a grand allegory, while The Spirit of the Beehive is more about fantasy and reality.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

A bit over the top I think with a lot of things.
They didn't really make it that accurate to the book. I think they could have done better.

Of the two I liked The Spirit of the Beehive the most, Ana was a big part of this. Watching her reminded me more of the way I though as a child in a way that few, if any, films have (not necessarily memories of childhood, or nostalgia for those times but of what it was like to think as a child, it's kind of hard to describe)

My connection with the characters in Days of Heaven was not nearly as strong. I'm not sure that I've ever seen a movie that was a pretty (I hope Criterion releases it in Blu-ray)

Fanboys...

I am such a dork... This movie is hilarious, especially if you like the original Star Wars movies as much as I do.
