Re: BiM 2009: STAR [CLOSED]
I might record some scratch dialog.

Try to change things, even if it's very small and add your own things. Make up a dialogue, think of a different beginning and/or end.
...I've thought about that because in a homework I did for school I had to change the end of that story... and I could also change the beginning...
With music it's even more complicated, the song writer, the singer (and I think the band) and the publisher would have to give you permission (usually).
Don't worry about that cuz me and my father are working on a music for that film...

ok how do i send the video for the STAR contest?
Can I ask, why did you post that twice?
If you direct your eyes to the first post in this thread, you will find your answer.
now I have another doubt: u said that we can't release our videos until the end date of the contest... but can we make trailers about it? and can I make it talked in different languages?
how do i send the video for the STAR contest?
Films must be longer then 2 minutes - running times of exactly 2:00 and greater are acceptable. To submit your film, send a private message in the BiM forums to username “STAR,” including your name and a link to download the entry. We will accept .avi, .mov, and .wmv formats, please include a version of the video that is 30 megabytes or less, though higher quality versions may be included as well.
Entries may not be made public before the deadline, so YouTube, Vimeo, and other such video websites will not be a good place to upload your film. We recommend uploading your film via a .zip archive to either your own hosting or a file hosting site such as MediaFire. Submissions may have been submitted to other contests or premiered for live audiences as long as they have not appeared for a public audience on the Internet.

Yes, although I hoped to maybe organize a small trailer challenge for entrants, where they can release their trailers for a given deadline. Probably fairly close to the deadline for the finished films. There probably wouldn't be prizes or anything, though, so it would just be for fun.
and can I make it talked in different languages?
Foreign languages are completely acceptable, but understand that unless you include English subtitles it may be very difficult for judges to rank your film well on the basis of story. The judges would be entirely within their rights to score a film poorly because they cannot understand it due to a language barrier.
Ok now i know, well thanks I am going to enter.
I'll most likely be writing something for this, but I have no clue if I'll be able to make it, what with finals coming up and this play that I'm pretty dedicated to.
Good luck to all who enter! Let's hope for an awesome turnout!
Boy, I've had another idea for STAR.
This is my third one.
And probably my best too.
DOH! My animation program CRASHED! I lost many seconds of footage ![]()
No, use anazasi, which saves the file as a video, and not as frames, in which I don't need to clean up the mess
Though we are getting a bit off-topic, how high resolution can you animate in?
This brings up a bit of a tough issue, but for us CG brickfilmers, could you maybe give a little explanation as to why submissions must be 50% stop-mo? With inexpensive technology increasing, there are some more CG brickfilms going into production, and I think it would be a shame if BiM isolated itself in the stop-motion community.
I'm obviously not part of the administration, so I don't really have any authority, but I'd love to hear the administration's thoughts on this as well as in future competitions.

My thinking is that it's very difficult to judge CG animation and traditional stop-mo by the same standard, particularly when it comes to visuals and animation. That's the main reason this wouldn't work for a judged contest, at least with the kind of judging system we've always used.
I personally am not a fan of completely CG brickfilms, to me it defeats the purpose of using LEGO (infinite customization, simple pre-built armatures) because you might as well use characters of your own design unless the story is hinged on the characters being minifigures.
That having been said, we do want to encourage all forms of animation and a CG brickfilm does fall within the classification for directory purposes. Perhaps these guidelines will be reconsidered in the future, but there's a certain uniqueness and charm to stop-motion that is, for me, what creates much of the appeal of a brickfilm.

I couldn't agree more.
I do like additions with CG, such as certain scenes that its needed. Like you did in Plant, Leo I think is a good use of CG. Better then ALL CG IMO.
I've got a question, are music videos acceptable?
