Topic: Organizing film files on your computer

If you're working on a film of any size, keeping all your files organized is very important.  So I'm curious how people organize all their film's files on their computers, you know, like your folder and sub-folder arrangement.  And what kind of naming conventions do you use to name your images and your video files?  For example, I use "sh010.avi" for shot 1 and I keep it in a folder called "sc020" because that shot is in scene 2.  I number things that way so I can add a shot in between if I need to:

shot 1 = sh010
shot 2 = sh020

so if I decide I need an insert shot in between shot 1 & 2,  I can name it sh015.  (like how they do line numbers in old BASIC computer programming).

Re: Organizing film files on your computer

I just have a film folder, with sub folders for each film.

Then each folder is a mess.

Yeah, you'll need to listen to that whenever you search your folders. mini/wink I prefer Nube Negra myself.

FilmName
FilmName\Raw footage
FilmName\Dialogue
FilmName\Foley
FilmName\FX
FilmName\Tests

The FX and Tests folders usually have subfolders for specific shots. Vegas project file and avi files go in the root FilmName folder.

Re: Organizing film files on your computer

File with (part of) the name of the movie I'm making.
Then a sub-file with all the frames, a sub-file with all the avi's and a sub-file with all the recorded voices.

Re: Organizing film files on your computer

For my current project (which is inactive), I do it like this. I've done previous projects similarly.

Basically there's a folder for every sage and inside every folder are seperate scenes and inside every seperate scene are seperate shots.
