Topic: Learning Blender

Hello all.

I'm interested in learning Blender. I've played around with the tutorials on the web but am looking for something a little more definitive--i.e. a book. With that being said, does anyone know what the best book would be for learning Blender?

A couple extra points:

a) I'm a complete newbie when it comes to Blender and 3D animation
b) Is Blender for Dummies the way to begin?
c) I'm mainly interested in using Blender with my brick filming

Thanks in advance.

Re: Learning Blender

I swear someone like Leo needs to make a brickfilming with blender tutorial.

262,

Here are two free online blender books for you: Blender 3d: Noob to Pro and Essential Blender. They're kind of different, so take a look at each of them before choosing. I learned from Essential Blender.

If you're interested in using Blender for brickfilming, you will probably want to use LDraw - a database of 3d LEGO parts. You can import them into Blender and work with them like any other 3d mesh. Most brickfilmers use two LDraw editors - MLCad to build 3d LEGO models and LeoCad to convert them to 3DS format so that you can import them into Blender.

Look into those two books as well as LDraw.

Re: Learning Blender

I know you're looking for books, and that's what I tried to do as well (I eventually gave up), but I would check out this site.  I know near nothing about this guy, but he looks helpful.

Thanks guys.

Thanks. I made my first 3D animation last night, and while it is one of the most primitive things ever created - two spheres circling a pulsating cube - it has given me such a sense of accomplishment. Blender does look intimidating but Essential Blender does a great job of breaking it down.

Re: Learning Blender

Can we see the animation?

YouTube

I created this after reading the first three chapters of Essential Blender. I did the tutorial and was pleased with it, so I decided to start from scratch and see if I can get something going. It's basically just me learning to work in three dimensions...

Thanks again for all of the help.

Re: Learning Blender

Not bad, I should try Essential Blender.

Re: Learning Blender

Right on. mini/smile My first 3d animation looked similar to that as well.

Keep working on it, you'll get better and better.

I don't find it annoying, it just makes him look like an idiot.

By all means leave it there. The world embraces idiots.
