Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Wow. That was horribly cheesy. It was a feel-good film for many ages. The swearing including "badass," etc. was not expected from a Disney movie, let alone PG. The hilarity came more from a fat guy running around a mall. The story wasn't really thought out and seemed useless.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Golden Compass (Or "Northern Lights", as I like to call it)

I knew it wasn't going to be as good as the book as soon as the monologue at beginning came on, explaining what seemed to be all the important stuff that they couldn't fit into the movie any other way. I have a simple solution for that. Make the movie longer. Seriously, if you can't take a couple extra minutes to have scenes explaining that stuff, you shouldn't be making movies.

I also need to say that the ending was horrible. Why make a book into a movie if you aren't going to do the whole thing, and just up to the point where everything seems happy. I don't care if the book ends with Rodger dying, and Lyra stepping into a new world], it is the ending of the book, and that is where you should end.

Inkheart
It suffered many of the same flaws as Northern Lights, but the overall movie was, in my opinion, much better, and closer to the book than Northern Lights.

Corpse Bride
An amazing piece of Stop Motion animation. Flawless. I can't say bad things about this movie. Tim Burton gets better and better.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The last films I've watched:

Cloverfield
The first time I've seen it. Although I don't like monster-films at all, that was pretty cool- very thrilling and technically well done, too. The shaky cam effect made that all very authentic.

Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
Great film. I've seen "Snatch" before, and this is just as good. Funny as hell. Now I want to see Rock'n'Rolla.

Yeah, I thought the script for the film was horrendous; it rushed things forward ridiculously fast. Lyra agrees to go north with Mrs. Coulter after literally three or four sentences of dialogue.

I'm especially annoyed because the cast for the film is so superb, but they wasted it on a mediocre screenplay and horribly bland production values.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Truly a great movie that will stay in the memorie of my young youth mini/smile

Colombus was great as director

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Colombus takes on another harry potter and did a fine job again mini/smile

Spoiler (click to read)

I just love the Chamber Of Secret scene where Harry fights the basilisk mini/bigsmile

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Ok here is where it started to go a bit wrong :-/

a new director + a totally other style. I missed that magical feeling I saw in the first 2 films.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I haven't seen it in years but this is what I got to say about.

it was cr*p, pure cr*p. the magic was all gone and all that was left is just a harry potter story ruined by another new horrific director.

I was very disapointed cause it had a pretty awesome storyline.

the only thing I liked in this film is the cemetary scene.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Wauw.... new director.... and he broth back that jolly good Harry Potter feeling mini/bigsmile

Up next Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince this summer! mini/bigsmile

How it won Best Visual Effects over Transformers is something I will never understand.

How people care about that award is something I will never understand. mini/tongue

Actually, no, I do care, but I haven't seen any nominees lately.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Oscars lost all credibility with me when Sharktale was nominated for Best Animated Picture.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Remember, Norbit is an Oscar-nominated film as well.

As is Click, for that matter.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

To get back on topic, I just watcehed Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. It was good, except I noticed as the AT-STs walked through the grass/plants, the plants didn't move.

And what was SharkTale competing against?

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Darkman: I agree with most of your comments.

Here are my opinions of the Harry Potter Movies:

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

AWESOME! Just stunning! Colombus has perfectly captured the book, the script was perfectly adapted and nothing was left out.
Though, it does suffer from poor acting by Daniel Radcliffe, but the rest of the cast was so top notch that we can avoid it. Snape and Dumbledore stole the show in my opinion. The lack of special effects also makes the whole thing feel much more realistic, and the sets were fantastic. I also like John Cleese's breif cameo as Nearly Headless Nick.

You really had to be there at the cinema to experience the magic. I was just completely blown away by the sheer magic and charm of it. I think my favourite part was the Quiddich match. Just amazing.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

I actually find it better than the 1st one. Daniel Radcliffe improves somewhat, and the casting just keeps getting better with the addition of Mr Weasley, a larger role of Mrs Weasley (who was only seen breifly in the first installment) and possibly the best preformance of all: Gilderoy Lockheart. Lucius Malfoy also steals the show. He's basically a blonde Snape, which therefore makes him awesome too. The film still keeps faithful to the storyline though, something that is unheard of these days. The special effects improve aswell (the Basilisk effect is just awesome)

Overall = All hail Colombus!

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Where do I begin?

Horrible Acting + Horrible Directing + Horrible Script + Totally destroying what could have been the best movie series of all time = CRAP!

Why is the main question. Why did the series suddenly need to change so early? What was so wrong with the old movies that they just HAD to be ruined by this pile of dragon doo doo!
The only thing understandable and exusable is the re-casting of Dumbledore, due to the old Dumbledores tragic and untimely death. But the replacement is awful. He just doesnt have the wisdom or the air of power to him. With the old Dumbledore, and the Dumbledore in the novels, you just knew that Dumbledore was so powerfull but yet its never shown untill my favourite part of the 5th book - when Dumbledore OWNS a whole gang of Minsitry officals within 1 paragraph. I always find the new Dumbledore very agressive however, particulary during the 4th film. He just doesnt have that calm sophistication that Dumbledore always had before. But its the Directors fault.

The movie starts off badly. We meet a much older Harry (Daniel Radciffe was 15 when this was filmed. Harry is 13 in the book) in a darkly redecorated Dursley house (I guess Dudley became a heavy metal fan). Right from the beggining, we get a pointless scene of Harry PREFORMING MAGIC. How dumb was the director? Anyone who has read a single one of the Harry Potter books will know that underaged wizards are not allowed to preform magic outside of school. To prove how stupid the Director is, the story is that Harry accidenly blows up his aunt (which is the only good scene of the movie) and runs away to try and escape the Ministry of Magic because he had ILLEGALLY PREFORMED MAGIC. HOW FLAWED CAN YOU GET!?!

So yeah, the whole movie is pretty much like that. Apart from the new Dumbledore, the casting is okish. I hate Flitwicks new look (he looks nothing like the one from 1&2, and did JK Rowling say that he conducted a choir? Did JK even mention a choir?) Trelawny was kind of as I expected, Sirius Black and Lupin are fine. The Knight Bus scene is an awful attempt at trying to be funny, as is pretty much every joke in the movie. The only thing worser than the movies lamentable attempts at making us chuckle is Daniel Radcliffes acting. My god! Daniel Radcliffe is a genius. He is possibly the only lead actor to never show any emotions! Amazing! Most people suffer from the problem of being too over-the-top with their emotions, but not Mr Radcliffe!

The main problem with this movie is the Director. Its not the actors fault or the editors fault, or anyones fault save the Director that the movie is bad. Alfonso Cuarón was praised by Critics for 'Capturing the essence of the orinal novels'. Bullcrap. What was wrong with Colombus? HE captured the magic of the Novels. Whilst I agree that the novels do get darker, Book 3 wasnt dark! Nothing dark actually happened during the 3rd book. And dont you dare say "Dementor". The Dementors are pussies in the movie (special credit to David Yates for creating decent Dementors in No.5, though they are still nothing like how they are described in the book)

Alfonso destroyed the Harry Potter series beyond repair. Whilst the movie isnt the worst in history, comparing the Novel to the Film is like comparing Earth to Venus respectively. They have nothing in common apart from their bare basic structure.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I was extremely nervous about the 4th movie. The Goblet of Fire has a really sweet plot, and I didnt want to see it ruined again like Number 3. But then I saw the trailer. This is, in my opinon, the best movie trailer ever. And so I was hyped.

I was only a little bit dissapointed.

What an improvement! Though it wasnt without its flaws, it is way better than No.3. Like 1+2, the casting is great with Igor Karkaroff, Cedric Diggory, Barty Crouch sr (played by the guy who plays John Lumic), Fleur Delacour, Victor Krumb (though he was a little older than I expected) and a breif appearence from David Tennant (the funny thing was that the film was released just after he was announced as the new Doctor, so many people joked that The Doctor was in fact Barty Crouch disguised. Also, both Bary Crouch jr and sr star in Doctor Who). But the best act here has to go to Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort, for being the most awesome supervillan since Emperor Palpatine. Even better, Daniel Radcliffes acting has suddenly improved! I dont know what he did, but no longer is his acting painfull!

Even though the series is obviously still heavily damaged, the film does attempt to patch things up a little. My gripes are the following:
-Mad Eye Moody. Ouch! Again, its not the actors fault, but the Directors. He's just far too agressive, and he always seems like he's trying to be comical, but fails miserably. And, whats with the part when he fixes the ceiling from going wrong? Why not just have him entering as normal through the FRONT door like everyone else?
-Humour. Still terrible. You could go into depression if you watched this movie more than once a week from the humour.
-The Yule ball. It was actually the only thing from the book I would have liked to seen cut. I never felt the scene contributed much to the storyline. The Rock band preforming was stupid and un-enjoyable. Why have them in the movie? All it was doing was eating up screentime when more important scenes could be taking place. If time was such an issue, why didnt they cut out the stupid stuff that did nothing to the plot? There was hardly any pointless scenes like this in the first 2. Alfonso has really lowered the bar here.

But the thing I like about it is the ending (the Graveyard Scene and beyond). It actually made me feel like I was watching a Harry Potter movie again. For once, the new Dark feeling actually suited the plot, and the acting suddenly became perfect, and the story flawless. And the final scene felt exactly like the original Harry Potter movies. Whilst this movie had a bumpy ride, it ends smoothy and was overall fine.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I'm amazed. That was......good!

For the first time since the 2nd Movie, I'm satisfied. Whilst the magic and charm from the original movies has been completely removed by Alfonso, David Yates has made a brilliant effort at bringing back these movies to their original standard.

My only gripe is that like the 4th film, there is the occasion unfitting scene (like the Yule Ball) that attempts to be funny. Sometimes it is, sometimes its not. The Hit and Miss humour does improve somewhat, with more hits than misses, but its just a case if your in a good mood or not. When I'm nervous, I tend to laugh at anything.

Dolores Umbridge shines throughout this movie. I just want to slap her because she is so annoying, but thats what makes her so good. Dumbledores direction improves a little, though I always think the old Dumbledore could do 100 times better. Daniel Radcliffe remains pretty good, and the other actors are average. I think they should have kept looking during the well publicised auditions for Luna Lovegood but ah well. I liked Grawp, the Thesterals, the new design for the Dementors, the whole Dumbledores army thing, and the ending.

2 more Gripes:
-Where is my favourite scene? You know, the scene when Dumbledore OWNS a whole gang of Ministry Officials. He just dissapears and looks like a coward instead.
-Rework your directing of Voldemort. At the moment, he seems to be too fast paced and agressive. Make him more relaxed, confident, and sophisticated.

Thats my only gripes. With David Yates directing the last two films, there is still hope that Harry Potter can pull through and be restored to its previous state. I can only expect good things with the next movies.
