The Abyss

Watching it again, I sort of wish that they had spent more time developing the alien part of the story, as it kind of comes off as a bit gimmicky. However, the visuals and the cinematography are still quite lovely to watch. I saw the original cut instead of the director's cut, and thankfully it didn't have the lame anti-war/violence message at the end.

Blade Runner (The Original Cut)

I've now seen the Original and Director's Cuts of this movie, now I'm curious to see the Final Cut, which I hear is fantastic. Anyway, having seen the film before, I knew what to expect from it, and I think it helped me to better appreciate it. Upon my first viewing, I was expecting something a bit more action-packed to go along with the great visual effects the film boasts, but now that I knew what to expect, I was better able to pay attention to the thematic elements of the film and its meditation on the nature of humanity. Plus, the 'film noir' style of the movie is also pretty cool.

The look of the film is absolutely fantastic. I love the art direction, cinematography, and visual design, which is perfectly complimented by Vangelis' great musical score.

Horatio Hornblower (Volume I: The Duel)
It was great! I loved the ship battle at the end, and I never knew
the Captain would turn out to like Horatio that much! mini/bigsmile

P.S. I know its not a movie

North by Northwest

The music sets an slightly eerie feel to the film, and climbing down Mt. Rushmore is awesome, I love

This movie.

Horatio Hornblower (Volume II: The Fire Ships)
Great, it was amazing!

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I just watched Honey, I Shrunk the Kids

Lol, I remember watching it years ago, when I was, like, three or four

I second that. I love films that make you draw your own lines between the dots.

I never plan on buying anything when I go to the Lego Store.
Strangely enough, I always wind up finding something that makes me ditch those plans.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I know! Recently I just watched Vertigo, and it was pretty sick!

I also watched, Jumanji, It was okay, never really liked it.

I Robot, and Indpendence Day. Good old cheesy filmaking.

Area 51, Puhh-lease! but it was a wonderful film.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I watched Slumdog Millonaire twice, and it keeps getting better and better.

Something that is really making me mad though, is my copy does not have the special features it says on the box. Did anyone get two discs? If you got one, were the special features inside the special features menu? In mine there is no 12 deleted scenes! I am pissed off!

Red Planet

Went on TV 2 am, so I recorded it up and watched it today.  Nice film, but sometimes it looked like thay didnt do their best with the visual FX

I'm BACK! mini/bigsmile

Timecrimes

One of the best time travel movies I've ever seen. If you enjoyed movies like Primer, and don't mind subtitles (and you shouldn't, unless you're some illiterate middle-school dropout), I urge you to check it out. Warning: boobies.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Clue
Awesome, as it was the first time I saw it, but I think I caught a bit more of the innuendo this time around.

The Lion King
I haven't seen this movie in years, because my mom got rid of it after she heard about the suggestive subliminal messaging. Anyway, I really enjoyed it, though I'm noticing a pattern in a bunch of Disney works, now.

Kung-Fu Panda (Edited Version)
I didn't really have a choice on whether we were going to watch this or not. However, for a Dreamworks film, it was pretty good, but there was a severe lack of "funny" for a comedy. About the only funny part was in the cartoon style beginning; "Ah! I'm blind!" "He's too awesome!"
I think it would have been a bit better if it weren't for the over-exaggerated kung-fu, and the names for the Furious Five were completely unoriginal. And why does a panda have a goose for a father? And the villain's escape was completely predictable (how he got out). And the rhino guards were stolen from Robin Hood. I could go longer.

Marley and Me
Meh. It was just another dog story, and a comedy with no laughs.

The Boy In The Striped Pajamas

Spoiler (click to read)

I didn't like the end, because the little boy gets BURNED in the furnace where they burn all the jews. And after I had gotten so attached to him! My whole family started crying.

Pussy Soup
Absurd trash film at his best plus a lot of cat content . Epic father and son battle in tv at the end of the film.

Genius Party
A bunch of anime shorts from studio 4°C. Psycho kids nightmare land, future robots from the outer space, experimental pseudo philosophy, zombies, explosions. All in colour.

Being John Malkovich

The weirdest/creepiest movie in the whole history if movies.

Oddly enough, it was fantastic, words can't even describe how it was so good.

Now, that I've seen this, I'm excited for Where the Wild Things Are, Spike Jonze is a brilliant man.

Trainspotting - with commentary

First time I've ever actually been interested enough to watch a film again with the commentary on. It was really very interesting to hear them talking about the film as it played - I never realised how many cameos there are in that film! It's a commentary from 1996 as well which is entertaining, as Danny Boyle and Ewan McGreggor begin to talk about how they are going to work together on a Life Less Ordinary. It's cool to hear them talking about it before they've made it. Got a second disk of features to watch tommorow!

The Room (2003)

Holy spoot, that was amazing. If you got a kick out of brickfilms like A Trip To Alphen and Lost for their unintentional hilarity, The Room will be 90 minutes of pure, awkward joy. In a nutshell, the "plot" is about a man named Johnny (played by Tommy Wiseau, who also wrote and directed this piece of awesome trash) who gets entangled in a nonsensical, terribly written love triangle. I dare not reveal anything else. It's a poorly made, hilarious vanity trip.

Here's some clips to get just a taste of the brilliance on display:

The Trailer

"I Did Not Hit Her!"

"YOU'RE TEARING ME APART, LISA!"

One of these days I wanna go to a midnight showing, they sound like a blast.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I like how he ignores all punctuation - "you're lying I never hit you you're tearing me apart"
