We also have a Septemberfest 2020 animation contest! Click here for more info.
Septemberfest isn't all about animation... This year, we're holding a photo contest as well! The rules are simple. Take a photo of a LEGO brick or minifigure doing anything, anywhere, edit it to make sure it's pretty, and submit! You'll be entered in the contest.
Prompt
The prompt for this contest is "What do you want?" This is a quote from in The Citizen of the Year.
While the question in the context of the film is decidedly about a restaurant order, the whole film echoes a similar theme. Balser and the Neighbor wanted to be the citizen of the year, and the bum... well we could write many pages about what he really wanted.
But in the context of this contest, you're not required to make anything related to The Citizen of the Year (unless you want to). I want you to be creative. The theme "What do you want?" is a question for you to answer, in photo form. You decide who "you" is, and you decide what "you" want. You can tell this in any way imaginable, as long as it follows the rules of the contest.
Think about photography as telling a story in one frame. A photo is more than just a snapshot, it is meant to express and idea or a thought. Use composition, color, props, characters, etc., to express these ideas. Of course, this is a LEGO-themed contest, so make sure it prominently features LEGO pieces.
The contest runs from September 1, 2020 to October 31, 2020.
Prize
The prizes for this year's Septemberfest contest are generously provided by The LEGO Group via the LEGO® Ambassador Network. A huge thank you goes out to them!
There will only be one winner in the photo contest, so make the best photo you possibly can! The winner will receive:
60226 LEGO City Mars Research Shuttle plus 40312 LEGO Xtra Streetlamps plus a Dustbin Parrots Vinyl Sticker!
Also special thanks to Pongowl for designing this year's Septemberfest logo!
Judges
The judging for the photo contest will focus on good practices of photography. Included, but not limited to, composition, colors, focus, direction, and meaning/story. A good photo isn't just a snapshot, but a well crafted piece of work that tells a story. Use that to your advantage.
The judges for the photo contest are the same as for the animation contest:
Dewfilms
Dewfilms is a longtime member of the brickfilming community, and a moderator on Bricks in Motion. She has directed some brickfilms herself, but is also well known for her voice acting work. She's also been a reoccurring judge for Bricks in Motion contests.
Brickcrazy
Brickcrazy, also known as 5-K Animations on YouTube, is a fellow community member who has created a number of very well received brickfilms over the years.
Walter Benson
Walter is a longtime member of the Bricks in Motion community, most notably known for his film That's the Way it Goes!.
rioforce
Rioforce is the administrator of Bricks in Motion (and coincidentally the host of this very contest!). He's known in the community for his work on Sola Luna as well as hosting contests on Bricks in Motion.
Rules
Photos must consist of primarily LEGO (or similar building block toy) bricks. Photos may include other forms of media (CGI, drawings, people, animals, digital effects, etc.), but must be a photograph featuring a LEGO-style toy.
No mature or explicit content is allowed. This includes, but is not limited to: swearing, excessive gore, overt sexual content, and blatant drug references.
Submitted photos must be new photos, created specifically for this contest.
You may not use frames from an existing brickfilm for this contest, nor from an entry into the Septemberfest Animation Contest.
Only one entry per person, please.
You must be a registered Bricks in Motion member to enter.
Deadline
The deadline for submission is October 31, 2020 at 11:59pm EDT.
Photos may be submitted and made public any time after the start of the contest.
To submit your photo, fill out this form. You will receive a confirmation email within two days of submitting the form (but usually sooner). Photos submitted must be under 10MBs.
You are encouraged to share your images to a photo sharing site as well (Instagram, Twitter, Flickr, Bricksafe) and share them here on this topic! But remember... only one photo per person!
Have fun, I look forward to seeing your entries!
