Topic: How to work in a selected area in AE
So is there any way to only work in a selected area of a video in AE? Like drawing a mask, but instead of masking that area, it just selects it so that whatever I do only applies to that selection?

i have the same problemo
You could duplicate the comp, add effects to the new comp add it on top of your current comp and use a mask to select what parts you want to show.
Yeah that’s what I’ve been doing, thanks for the reply. It’s shocking that a program as expensive as After Effects doesn’t have a feature that basic!
Oh, I found the correct solution:
Create an adjustment layer
Apply effects you want to use on the adjustment layer
Create a mask on the adjustment layer
