I personally like looking at just one frame, at the detail put into it, the set, the story, ect; on the other side, multiple frames demand my attention, so I constantly find myself looking away. Night Owl, if you want people to work more on their frames, asking them to also make multiple shots is not the way to go about it.

Well, given the quality of the last few rounds of the one-frame contest (with a few exceptions here and there), neither is that. One frame unfortunately allows greater opportunity for people to just cheaply take a shot at the theme without real care to the conventions of good cinematography such as lighting, set design, character and camera placement, even subtlety for that matter.

I agree with MindGame, though I know that both models have advantages and disadvantages. Something I'm seeing here is that people are making sequences that are a lot more like comic strips than storyboards.

Can you explain this please.

1st Place: Nichtgedreht- I really like your use of shots with cameras and soldiers to establish an atmosphere. The blue light with high contrast gives off a very eerie mood. My only complaint is that the 3rd shot seems a bit out of place brightness wise.
Timothy R.- Clear picture quality, and some nicely framed shots. Honestly though, I can't tell what is happening. Is the man telling everyone what to do, or is he screaming because he doesn't want to be told what to do? I think with a few more frames it could have made much more sense.
A.- The concept is good, but some of the cinematography could have been better. It helps a lot to try to get the camera at the figure's eye level, and avoid having many shots straight from the side. You may also have done better with some dramatic lighting, perhaps deep shadows to add a sense of foreboding.

Your turn Nichtgedreht!

Re: Cinematography Challenge - REDUX (read rules first)

Sounds reasonable. I might try to get an entry in this time around (now begin laughing).

Re: Cinematography Challenge - REDUX (read rules first)

We are happy to have won this contest and still thinking of an interesting topic.

We decided for GENIUS. You should finish until the 24th of April.

Re: Cinematography Challenge - REDUX (read rules first)

Seems like nobody is interested in entering, as there isn't any entry so far even extending the deadline probably won't help.
Do you dislike the contest or did we chose a to abstract topic?

If you come up with an easier or more interesting topic this might help to continue this contest.

Re: Cinematography Challenge - REDUX (read rules first)

I think that the problem is that everyone prefers the old Cinematography Contest. The theme was a very good choice.
