Topic: What Walk Cycle Do You Use?

I'm curious to see what you all use. (I'll edit this post to show mine soon)

Re: What Walk Cycle Do You Use?

I just thought that I would mention that if you want to see a specific person's walk cycle, you could always use watchframebyframe (recommended to me by thistof) which is a website where you can literally watch any youtube video frame by frame. Still, it would be nice to see other peoples' walk cycles here anyway mini/smile unfortunately, I don't have enough time to post mine, but it's nothing special. Just the one that is commonly used in 15fps brickfilms mini/smile

Re: What Walk Cycle Do You Use?

A walk cycle can change so much depending on what style you are going for. I have personally used around 5 different walk cycles ranging from 4 to 8 frames per step. My most common would be the 5 frames per step though.

What Dragon Brick Studios suggested would be a good way to see other people's walk sequences.

Re: What Walk Cycle Do You Use?

Mine is the most common walk cycle. The one you see in a lot of tutorials - the 4-frame walk cycle.

Re: What Walk Cycle Do You Use?

I use a variation of the Repelling Spider method, but I move the arms and legs slightly in every frame, and I lean the bodies forward just a little bit on the frame just before the keyframe (1st position).  Then the body snaps back a bit.

I use a 8 or 12 frame walk cycle for 20 fps but if I'm doing 15 fps I do the 5 frame walk cycle

Re: What Walk Cycle Do You Use?

wow.  that's more like a run.  Walk cycles are usually about 8 to 10 frames.

Re: What Walk Cycle Do You Use?

Not exactly Brick oriented, but I had a blog a while back where I did walk cycles like mad. I've been a bit lazy about that blog in the past couple years, but it gave me a lot of insight into planning walks.

Richard Williams' "Animator's Survival Kit" goes into some really great detail on walks, and belongs in every animator's library.
