It's a bit intentionally vague, but the spirit of the rule is to encourage people to avoid focusing their films on violence or other elements some viewers or sponsors could find objectionable. Glorifying gun violence as "fun" might fall in that category, it often depends how it is contextualized in your story. This isn't to say no violence of any kind is allowed, or no blood is allowed period, but if you make something that is clearly going to offend people, it is unlikely to be well-received in the judging process in light of that.

Re: Summer Contest: Sight & Sound

This contest seems perfect for Dino Island, the film I'm making. The one thing is that I definitely won't be able to finish it by September. That and the fact that Steffen Troeger, one of the judges, is acting in the film which is against the rules. :l

Re: Summer Contest: Sight & Sound

So just to clarify, we can post our trailers to youtube and the forums? We Just Can't Release the full film until after the contest is over?

Are you allowed to use Bon Jovi music? Like, music with singing in it?

No.

I assume.

I do not brickfilm anymore, but you can see my live action stuff here.

Re: Summer Contest: Sight & Sound

Yes it is, assuming you are creating your own interpretation and not one based on a copyrighted movie adaptation.

I'll say this: Sherlock Holmes has been done to death in every medium! I think it would be more challenging to come up with something fresh that will excite us judges using a story like that as your basis than if you came up with an original story. But it's your choice.

Okay thanks I'll give it a think mini/smile

Re: Summer Contest: Sight & Sound

Would 5 seconds of CGI be frowned upon? it would be just for a transition but i wasn't sure if that would go with the rules, or take away from the intent of the nature of this contest?

That should answer it.
It isn't a problem in the least.

Re: Summer Contest: Sight & Sound

Our films have to be unlisted, right? So, on youtube, can we make an unlisted video public?

What does it mean when it says, "The entry you submit to the judges must be the entry made publicly available to everyone else.", if we're not allowed to post it publicly after the deadline?

Can I submit the same film to the BiM forum and submit it by pressing the "submit film" on the home page?

Mod edit: Please don't triple post!

After the contest ends, you can make your video public. But not before then, because then it would disqualify you from the contest.

That means that if you submit your film to the judges, you shouldn't make a revision or re-edit of the film and put it on your youtube channel claiming that it's the film you submitted. If you keep your contest entry video unlisted and have an updated edition public, saying that it's the entry, you will be disqualified since you changed it after the contest deadline.

Once the film is made public, you can do what you want to do with it, whether submitting the film to BiM or whatever. Just to clairify, though, you have to use the Private Message link in the topic post in order to submit your film. Submitting it through the Films page on BiM doesn't do that.
