Topic: Kevin and Steve in: Heads -- Production Log

This is Kevin:

It's obvious he has a very crappy head. Well that's about to change, in this new adventure of Kevin and Steve. Since Disney XD was released back in May 2015, I have been thinking about how Kevin should get a new head, and on the last day of 2015 I had a good working script.

This is the official production log of Kevin and Steve in: Heads. Here you will find upcoming frames, behind the scenes photos, and updates.

Progress Status:
Phase: Production
Expected release day: Aiming for a late 2016 release.
(Last updated 6/25/16)

This initial post will be updated with a title/logo as soon as one is created, and the progress status will be updated as soon as possible.

As of January 10, I've tried to get feedback on the script, made a few revisions, posted a casting call (you can view that here), and recorded some lines myself.

Voice acting is complete. I have all the lines I need. I shall continue storyboarding and maybe start production soon.

Started the weekend off with a pretty decent shot. Here's some background pictures.

Yes, that's a random business card I found on my desk and am now using for a fill light card. Also, the various walls and paper surrounding the set are there to eliminate unwanted reflections off the new unscratched LEGO bricks.

Fool me 2wice branded walls! Genius.

I assume those are LED bulbs? what kind of exposure settings do you get with that setup?

Re: Kevin and Steve in: Heads -- Production Log

Actually I think they're fluorescent bulbs, and I usually have the exposure set to 1/36 of a second with the aperture at F13. There is this meter on the display that gives a rough estimate of how bright or dark the image will be, and if I set the exposure so that the little better is in the middle, the image will look alright. The meter looks like this:

             v
-2           0          +2
l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l

If I have the little arrow at 0, the overall brightness of the frame is almost perfect.

That's a great graphic! mini/lol Quite accurate!

I like what I am seeing! Also, I keep reading "Fool me 2wice" as "Fool 2 me wice"...

That's the point. It's gotta fool you that second time.

Re: Kevin and Steve in: Heads -- Production Log

I got 13 seconds of animation done this weekend. That's a lot. I live streamed animation of the final shot, which was a whopping 9 seconds, so if anyone is interested in watching it, the archive is available here, but the quality is pretty bad, so I wouldn't suggest watching it.

Now comes another week of school…

Re: Kevin and Steve in: Heads -- Production Log

Ok. After a few months in working on other projects, I finally got around to finishing the first scene! Now I'm working on the establishing shot for the second one. This is the exterior of the Heads shop. This is what a frame has the potential to look like, but I have yet to add detail:

The building I think will look the same, except that I think I will extend the edges so that the ends are offscreen. I can change it if you have suggestions though.

Re: Kevin and Steve in: Heads -- Production Log

The tan stripe and dark red/brown colour palette makes it look very similar to the indoor set you have already posted. Unless it's made clear they are moving between buildings, this could look like the outside of the same building initially.

Re: Kevin and Steve in: Heads -- Production Log

Yeah you're right *throws whole set away* Maybe I'll turn this into kind of a strip mall where this shop is sharing the same building as other small shops. The problem is I only have one large 6x4 window pane, and I can't just build the interior of every shop.

Re: Kevin and Steve in: Heads -- Production Log

Ok, I have redesigned the building, and even built the whole interior set on the same two baseplates for consistency. However, I realized that I don't have enough bricks, so I made an order on Bricklink and I don't think I can continue until that comes in.

Re: Kevin and Steve in: Heads -- Production Log

Update: whilst waiting for the pieces to arrive, I decided to work on the last scene, as that takes place on the same set as the first scene. The pieces came in about half a week ago and I've finished the heads shop and when I get home from a mission trip and then a vacation, I'll finish the last scene and start work on the second scene.

I've also made an update poster.

Also, I accidentally shaved off a chunk of my finger while cleaning up tonight, trying to tear apart two 2x4 plates. Lesson learned. Kids, use a brick separator.

Re: Kevin and Steve in: Heads -- Production Log

I finished the second out of seven scenes last night. The heads shop is next.
