Re: Café Corner
I rewatched the trailer and now I kinda wanna see Rogue one. I decided don't care how much Star wars they make. I've run out of them to watch.

About the book: My brother caught Star Wars fever in 1977 and bought the novel, which credits George Lucas as the author. In reality, it was ghost-written by sci-fi author Alan Dean Foster (who, in a nod to the classics, was assigned to write the novelization for episode 7!) What's pretty cool about the original novel is that it outlines the rise of Emperor Palpatine and the politics of the prequel trilogy.
Awesome still is that Scholastic released a picture book that contains an abridged version of the novel and tons of great pictures. It was a great resource before the WWW days, when oficial stills could be downloaded for keeps. We eventually threw my brother's Scholastic book away because it became so worn with use, but I found a very nice one at a yard sale for $5 a few years ago
Anyway, we watched th movie early on and there was no "Episode IV" in the scroll in the early runs. Also, a DVD release from around 2005 features a bonus DVD with the original, unedited version without any changes, even the EPISODE IV in the scroll! It's the version I watch.
Star Wars was the first movie I watched in a theater. Jaws doesn't count since it was a drive-in and I fell asleep while Brody was talking with someone. So I have a soft spot for Star Wars.
To be honest, I wouldn't want Rey to be a Skywalker. It'd be far too obvious and simple, not to mention everyone seems to expect that that will be the case. I think it would be much better and more believable if she was not related to any of the others (though, it could be interesting if she was a Kenobi...). I mean, I know the Force can bring related people together, but it's not as if the Skywalkers are the only gifted Force-users out there. It was already weird enough to have her suddenly develop Force-powers out of nowhere to begin with after she already fixed and flew the Millenium Falcon with basically zero training. Either way I don't think that will actually be the case, and I'm hoping they'll go for a similar twist as they did with Kylo Ren, where everyone was expecting him to be Luke, or his son, and they managed to subvert that while still keeping it interesting.
In other news, I got hit by a car last week.
I don't recommend it.

Ah jeez, I'm sorry, man. Hope you're okay. I remember seeing your post on Twitter but I can't quite remember, did you break your leg?
I get that they want to expand on Star Wars in any interpretation. That's fine, i wouldn't care nether or less if fans nitpick it too much but I don't know if it'll be done right. What i mean basically that the execution can't be plain straight up but rather more to a different approach as others would expect.
Speaking of Star Wars, would it be the best option to buy a secondhand laserdisc player and buy the uninterpreted trilogy?
@Mr Vertigo I am so sorry to hear that, I hope you are okay.
I wanted to buy the uninterrupted trilogy a couple of years back, but they were just too expensive. Obviously, the sellers know that people want that edition more than the later editions with the poorly rendered, unnecessary CGI that look much less practical than any special effects in the original.
I was able to get the original, unadulterated trilogy on vhs pretty cheap, but that would mean you have to have an old vhs player.

That, and you've got to deal with the 4:3 pan-and-scan... I have the VHS originals, but I'd really like to get blu-ray or at least widescreen DVD of all the films even with the modifications, because I'd like to see them in widescreen.
Mr. Vertigo, I'll play for you to have a seedy and painless recovery.
Rioforce, I too prefer the widescreen. I used to buy widescreen VHS tapes in teh days before DVDs. And I still have quite a bit of obscuriana on VHS that I can't transfer so I keep the VHS around.

How scary for you and your family! I will be praying for a quick recovery (emotional and physical) for you.

Another thing about Star wars, Rey might have had Jedi training before. Maybe Luke left her on the planet after Kylo ren destroyed everything, and she just got in into her head her family left her.

There are, in fact, widescreen versions of the original films available on VHS, they show up on eBay pretty regularly. If you want to pay a bit extra, you can actually get the whole original, unaltered trilogy on DVD, as in 2004 there was a relatively low profile release of them. They'll cost you a decent-ish amount, not too much though. In fact at a local convention there was some guy selling a whole bunch of DVD's who had the Episode 4 one for like $20.
The Despecialized edition versions are tha' way ta' go, doe. I got them a while ago, and they look great. I don't remember Star Wars looking this good even when I was a kid (Huh, I'm 18 now, so I can say that and be like 100% accurate. Weird.) I won't say too much about them, but look them up and get them if you can. Best way to watch original Star Wars like it was meant to be seen.

We have the original, unaltered DVD versions.
Yes, that was the one I was talking about. I was one year off. You call them low-profile releases, but I saw that edition around for about a decade. Someone even lost my episode VI one I lent him, and I replaced it for $14. He later found it so I have two now.
R.I.P. Prince 1959-2016
Pray for Prince's soul. I heard the news when TMZ broke it. Prince is my wife's favorite musician.
RIP Prince.
I just wanted to say that this has been on my mind for a while now, and I wanted to know what you think;
I used to collect a range of Mega Bloks sets called 'Pyrates'. Although I don't usually like Mega Bloks and obviously believe that Lego is superior in every way, I can't help but love this particular range of Mega Bloks sets. The ships are incredible, the figures are incredibly detailed and I feel like I could make a decent brickfilm with them. If I did ever make a film with them, this wouldn't be for a couple years, probably, but the thing that concerns me is that it might not be well received when it comes to most Brickfilmers, as I know that some of you on this sight probably hate Mega Bloks with a passion. So, what is your opinion on this subject? Here's an animated movie that Mega Bloks made themselves to promote it back in 2005:

If I remember correctly, mega bloks has an account on this site and advertised one of their halo contests, and people here entered. I really don't think people would avoid a video just because it is made with mega bloks.
If it's a well made film, I have nothing against it.
It's out of the ordinary, I'll give you that, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.
Mega Bloks does have some cool stuff, and if you like it, then by all means use it.
Sure, we may give you a hard time about using them, but I honestly don't think there's that much MegaBloks hate on this site. Well, not of the deep, driving, and harmful kind at least. ![]()
I generally don't use the stuff just because they are harder to animate with, simple.
