Re: Café Corner

NVIDIA does make their own cards from time to time, but you're correct, it's mostly other companies using their chipset in their own graphics cards. The EVGA card I've listed here is based off the NVIDIA 960 and thus will be able to use the CUDA cores for rendering and stuff.

Thanks for all of the reply's and suggestions, guys! I'm probably gonna stick with the 32 GBs, as while, yes, it might be more than I'll need all of the time, I just like the piece of mind that, should a really intensive editing situation come about, I'll have more than enough RAM to handle it. And I'll probs add some more HDDs in the future for more storage, this one 2TB will get me off the ground hopefully.

Re: Café Corner

I'd recommend starting with at least a 3tb to be safe, but your specs look pretty good across the board. I'm an Intel and Nvidia guy as well so that also looks good, EVGA makes pretty good cards from my understanding and as others have mentioned it has an Nvidia chipset. Check out http://pcpartpicker.com/ to cross reference those items with other retailers to find the cheapest option as well, often Fry's or Best Buy if they are near you will also price match many of those websites so you could even get good prices locally. Hope this helps.

Re: Café Corner

Video cards, as the others have explained, are confusing. NVIDIA doesn't make most NVIDIA video cards; they sell the design to various companies that all make variations on the card that meet at least the minimum specs. So an NVIDIA GTX 980, despite sounding like it'd be a very specific product, can be made by at least a half dozen different companies, with somewhat varying build quality and different appearances, packaging, etc. Many of the good ones, like EVGA, are pretty similar to each other in quality.

Re: Café Corner

I think you're fine on the hard drives.  I have a 128 GB SSD for OS, programs etc. and a 1 TB HDD for general storage and it's just fine. The way that I (and a lot of other people) handle project files is to only keep the files for active projects on the computers SSD or HDD, and store everything else on external drives. For less intensive work, like stills photography, I keep everything on external drives; my photography never even touches my computers HDD.

As a side note for gaming, since my SSD is small, I install games onto the HDD (which is 7200 rpm) and I've never had a problem with game performance, even with relatively new games such as Wolfenstein the New Order.

Re: Café Corner

Just got a BD burner, so 1) I'll back my movie stills and stuff to a more reliable medium, and 2) I'll be putting HOO 3 on Blu-Ray disc rather than DVD.

Re: Café Corner

Hey, does anybody remember a Batman VS Superman brick film from years back, based on the unused script for Warner Brothers 2002 movie attempt? I really want to see it again but it's impossible to find underneath all the Dawn Of Justice videos. I wondered if anyone knew the animator.

There are a ton of BvS films from years back, so maybe if you gave us a hint on what the visuals looked like, or if it was featured on TV, or something?

Re: Café Corner

I can't believe no one has commented on the April Fools joke yet.

Re: Café Corner

I'm quitting bricksinmotion. April fools.

I do not brickfilm anymore, but you can see my live action stuff here.

Re: Café Corner

Just thought I'd announce this here:

Guardians of the Galaxy (1941) is the greatest film of all time. Citizen Kane (2014) is a piece of cinematic trash, and Poe Dameron from Star Trek: The Force Awakens (1977) is one of the most genius and funny characters to ever grace the silver screen...

Oh, and by the way.

My friend is starting out with a game company and has a forum like this one.  Since it's new, there's no activity. Maybe if you like board games, you may join the forum to help jump-start it.

Re: Café Corner

I feel like a lot of people held back on April First this year.  Not just here, but all over the Internet.  I couldn't think of a good joke this year, so I did try anything.

I'm glad I haven't seen any "I'm leaving, bye guys" type jokes this time.  Those can be rather annoying, and aren't really funny.

I think that YouTube's Snoopvision joke was pretty good this year.  It's completely apparent that it's a joke, but it's well executed, and it's funny.

Re: Café Corner

I saw a number of funny April Fools jokes, including by not limited to, Quilted Northern, Google Express, Google Cardboard Plastic, YouTube Snoopavision, Lexus Velcro Seats, and a supposed Calvin & Hobbes reboot. Though, I have to agree, the pranks seemed a bit less this year to me.

Re: Café Corner

April is Autism Awareness month.  Holding Our Own is available year round, but if you purchase an episode 1 or 2 DVD for $6, which are loaded with extras, by the way, I'll donate $1 to Faces NJ.  New Jersey has the highest autism rate in the USA, and they appreciate every dollar they receive.  If you're interested, contact me anytime this month at holdingourown "at" ymail "dot" com.

By the way, the episode 3 DVD is delayed because I wanted to make it available on blu-ray, and we're just starting to assemble it.

^One missing there was Brickset announcing the LEGO Deadpool Movie, the LEGO Galidor Movie, and the LEGO Duplo Movie (obviously a sequel to the LEGO Movie - that cliffhanger ending has to go somewhere).

Re: Café Corner

I really enjoyed the year when Smeagol tried to convince the community that BIM was changing to Mobilfilms.com where everyone would be using PlayMobile instead of Lego for animating. It was hilarious!

Re: Café Corner

I don't know if you know what I'm talking about, but there was a big brickfilm project completed a couple of months ago, and Smeagol was involved in the making of it. It was a 40 minute long brickfilm, with knights and was released on Vimeo. I wanted to re-watch it, but couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called.

Re: Café Corner

Are you thinking of Bound? The Vimeo release is no longer available. I suppose you'll have to buy the dvd if you want to watch it.
