It is fun to attempt and the only person you would be cheating is yourself.

It ends exactly 24 hours after starting, hence the name TwentyFourHourAnimationCompetion. No one, not even the host knows the mod elements before the contest starts so asking someone won't help. If someone does tell... then that's a lie or somebody is cheating.

Yeah that's fine, I'd even slightly encourage something a little darker or outside of THAC bounds, though not just for the sake of it of course. 

Edit: Even if you feel like you can't make it for the whole thing, feel free to try a fun film in whatever time you have free. 
Also if you have any ideas for challenges that would be really nice as the current list isn't as large as I would like. (The Current challenge list for ideas).

I tried to think of a few challenges, here's what I got:
-Must use a certain color scheme throughout animation
-Characters must speak in rhymes
-No sound effects or music
-Character can only say one line throughout the whole film
-Must use custom made minifigures
-Must be more than 2 minutes long
-Use clay for ground
-Use real object (nonlego) in film
