Re: Guess the Film! (Game)

Sorry I missed the first post on this thread, and I didn't post 3 facts about the movie, so here they are

(1) The dress was on Antiques Roadshow in 2008 and was appraised for $250,000
That plus the Uke is how I recognized the movie, even though I've never seen it.

(2) The movie (and others with uke playing stars) helped to popularize the Ukulele internationally.

(3) At least one of her costumes was so fitted she had to be sewn in.

Congratulations Mark mini/wink it's your turn!

And Willow Tree, that's probably my favourite line, in a movie full of memorable quotes.

Well then, to continue the theme of black and white movies that are probably older than most of them members of this forum,
Here is a frame from one of the more iconic moments in film, that will either be really easy, or really obscure depending on what kind of movie buffs the users of this forum are.

Re: Guess the Film! (Game)

Buster Keaton is great mini/smile  On a quick side note, Every Frame a Painting released an excellent video essay on Keaton a few weeks back.

Alrighty, here's the next frame:

Re: Guess the Film! (Game)

Judging by the writing, I'm assuming its either a German film, or perhaps a Scandinavian film, in which case, I have absolutely no idea what it could be.

Re: Guess the Film! (Game)

I know what this is - studied it last year - but I want to give other people a chance, since I only just won a round. It's a great film; a really interesting exploration of the notion of spectatorship (or at least, that's one of the ways you can read it).

Ooh, I know this one, even though I haven't seen it personally.

Re: Guess the Film! (Game)

That's it, Mr Vertigo! Nice work getting the German title as well. You should definitely check it out when you get a chance. Like jampot said, it's a great film with interesting themes.

Re: Guess the Film! (Game)

Admittedly the title wasn't too difficult, seeing as I speak the language myself. mini/wink  Coming to think of it, there's a DVD of it in my family collection (which is how I recognised the frame), but I haven't actually gotten around to seeing it myself.  I should probably do that one day...

Anyway, here's mine.  Incidentally, this film has a few things in common with the last one, although it may be slightly obscure if you're not into this sort of cinema.
