Topic: Monster Mash

http://i60.tinypic.com/m79z7p.png

Greetings travelers. Glowing Skull Productions here.

For the past month i've been working on a lego stop motion music video for the song Bobby Pickett - Monster Mash.
Now i know im not the first one to animate a music video for this song, there's maby one or two on youtube already. However,  I've done it in 24 fps (frames per second) so my animation is likely to be much more smooth. The scenes are completely different and the video quality is higher aswell. So my goal has basically been to animate a notalgic lego stop motion video in as good quality as time and budget allows. I'm basically done with the video, just some minor adjustments and it should be done.

The video itself will be released sometime on the 31st of October 2015. I will be uploading one picture each day of a scene in the music video until the 31st of October. And probably som tips, tricks and behind the scenes footage aswell, if you guys would like that.

Anyways feel free to write a comment what you think about it. And keep checking back on the topic for updates!
Cya around friends.

Frankenstein doing the "monster mash". It's a little bit darker then the final video, probably because it's a gif and it tends to lose some quality...But yeah, you get the idea. mini/smile

Re: Monster Mash

That looks cool! I'll be sure to check this out when it's uploaded.

I am curious, though, are you stretching the frames to make them widescreen? It kind of looks like the minifigures are a bit shorter and fatter than they ought to be. mini/wink You should crop the top and bottom off the top of frames instead of stretching the frame horizontally to make it widescreen. But then again, if you are doing that, maybe it's just me looking at it wrong mini/tongue

By the way, welcome to Bricks in Motion!

Re: Monster Mash

Thank you! And no i don't stretch out the frames to make them widescreen...hmm that's strange i haven't thought or noticed that actually...I don't think it's to much of a difference, maby a little?...well, i guess we'll have to see how it turns out in the final video. Thanks anyway! mini/smile

Here's the castle! It's a miniature castle obviously, i didn't have bricks enough to build an epic "evil castle" so i had to improvise. And what i've learned from my years of practicing and doing stopmotion is that even miniature buildings can look good with some minor adjustments in Photoshop and After Effects.

Re: Monster Mash

Looks brilliant. I'm a big fan of micro Lego. Its a good way of making a lot with very little. I have to do that myself mini/smile

Re: Monster Mash

A problem i've come across when animating is light flickering...And guess that's a common problem for alot of people that are animating. I use the Canon EOS 550D with a Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro lens. And there tends to be a bit of flicker goin on, however i came across a great plugin for After Effects from Digital Anarchy that is called Flicker free. All you have to do is drop it on the project you are currently working on and it basically gets rid of 99% of the light flickering. mini/smile

The animating is done in what i think is the best animation program there is on the market, "Dragonframe Stopmotion. Editing is done in Photoshop CS6, After Effects CS6 and for editing everything together I use Sony Vegas 12.

Oh, and of course...

Who could that be hiding behind the bookshelf?

Here's a before and after picture of a scene. I used a red background, instead of a regular green screen. Then I used Keylight in After Effects CS6 to get rid of the background. I replaced it with a "spooky" looking background I made in Photoshop CS6. I also ended up adding some smoke to the background.

Almost 150 views on this thread! Thank you. mini/smile

Re: Monster Mash

Glowing skull, This looks like your animation should be totally epic!

Re: Monster Mash

Wow, a red screen! It's not too often that you see one of those! I'm looking forward to this video. mini/smile

Re: Monster Mash

Over 200 views on this thread. That's awesome and i didn't really expect that at all. mini/smile
Thank you for your kind comments aswell.

Today's picture is a pretty abstract one, it's only going to be shown for a short amount of time in the final movie. I felt like I needed something refreshing and "art" looking so I came up with this idea that everything in the picture should be in black and/or white. I find it pretty intriguing and refreshing. Hope you guys like it too even though it's a little bit different!

Re: Monster Mash

Greetings friends. Thank you for all the nice comments, once again. I took a break for two days, but now i'm back. Today I made some opening credits and also some closing credits for the movie.

The picture of today is a scene I actually did just a few days ago. I wanted to have atleast one more scene were some of the monsters did "the monster mash". There was alot of editing in this shot. I had to key out the background, duplicate the mumie and flip it horizontal and disaturate it. There's also three layers of fog that i had to key and slow down because it was in my opinion moving to fast. I created the background in Photoshop CS6. There was some more small adjustments that was done aswell. Everything was composed in After Effects CS6.
