Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

Yay! Top Ten!
Well done to everyone else who participated, this year's EASTER had great entries.
I am glad about my originality score. I expected my story to be worse than production... Oh well.
Hopefully I can participate in EASTER 2016, that is if I can come up with something more original, and if I have any interest in the prize.

By the way, you screwed up the spreadsheet.

Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

Congratulations to Blue Ghost! I was hoping to see his film up there. Congrats to everyone else as well.

I noticed that Easter Painter by France & Alex has no score for Story listed, and the total score is only a sum of two categories. It looks like it would have had a very good shot at the top 3 if it had Story points, so I hope this is remedied, to be fair.

Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

Congratulations to Blue Ghost.  We really enjoyed your entry.   I thought Harborlight Production would have had a top three, but I guess his entry was dinged for originality, and originality seemed to be very important in the judging this year.

I would also like to congratulate rioforce and the judges for putting on one of the best Easter contests that I can remember.  There was one Easter contest a few years ago in which the results didn't come out until summer.  Well done! mini/smile

Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

Not going to lie but how judging was done is disappointing. Dividing parts of a film up into categories and judging based on giving meaningless scores is absurd. Especially how subjective the categories. I really hope this way of judging would die. Of course judging is going to be subjective but the system should encourage looking at the film as a whole and have the judges come to a consensus of the best films.

Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

You might want to check your scores. As Penta pointed out, there appear to be some errors.

I'll have comments on the actual judging process later, but right now I generally have to echo what Aqua said.

Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

Didn't come in the top ten; blast it. Eh, I knew what all went wrong with my entry anyway.
But a congratulations to Blue Ghost for winning!

Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

Thanks for getting these results out so quickly!

Congratulations to the winners! It was a tough choice at times, with such variation in the presentation and styles of the entries, but while it made judging hard, it just goes to show the creativity and diversity of the community.
And don't worry, I'm sure that little scoring mix-up will get cleared up soon.

Thank you for the opportunity to judge all these entries! As always, some aspects are harder to judge than others, and I thank all those who did such a wonderful job on their entries for putting out the effort and time to enter.

Also, I'm planning on commenting on the entries in the next day or two, so keep an eye out for those.

Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

Oh my, I am so sorry about the scoring mix up. A couple of the scores were mis-counted and the story score on Easter Painter was somehow cleared. The results have changed.

Instead of Daniel coming in third and France & Alex coming in fourth, France & Alex will now come in third place, and Daniel will come in fourth.

Also, some of the numbers of the scores have been fixed, it seems that a few of them were slightly off (though, it did not change the places any).

I am extremely sorry for this mix up. mini/sad

on the full list of entries, it says the name to my film is Rockydude411. mini/confused

Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

I don't understand why my entry was rated so low for originality. My only guess is that the judges thought it was inspired by The Fastest Story Ever Told. Which in fact, that film never came into my head while animating the short. While making it I thought it was completely original, and I saw that there was no EASTER entry in the past like it. But oh well.

This was the second contest I have ever entered, and 5th place is nice!

I also agree with Aqua about the scoring, points seem to not to be the best way for doing this. I would prefer something like THAC happening with contests like these; where the judges pick a top 10-15 and then decide from there.

Nonetheless congratulations to the top three and beyond, and thanks to Rioforce for hosting the contest!

Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

I honestly didn't expect to place in the top ten! Congrats to everyone else, and thanks for hosting, rioforce!

Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

2nd place... That's awesome mini/bigsmile ! Never made top 3 in a contest before.

Thanks to rioforce for hosting the contest and providing the prizes, and Monitogo Studios for providing Bound!

Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

So many great entries!  I'm honored to have placed 4th.  No hard feelings on the scoring mixup.  Heck, if you guys hadn't said anything, I wouldn't even have known!  Thanks judges and Monitogo.  This was fun mini/bigsmile

Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

Congratulations top ten!
Is there any way to know my score?

Harborlight, I believe that your originality score was lowered because you simply made the story in the first books of the New Testament.
I'm not trying to be mean, I'm only sharing my opinion.
I really liked Rioforce's animation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umY3Nhgp3RA
It shows the story of the resurrection using flowers.
But even with a low score on originality, you got fifth place. Congratulations!

Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

Well done to all entries and congrats to the top ten and winner - I only discovered Brickfilming at Christmas when playing around with one of my daughters Lego sets - and now I'm hooked. I can't believe I forgot how cool Lego is!
I realise that I'm on a steep learning curve and watching every one elses films is definitely inspiring - onwards and upwards! Thanks to all involved in organising the competition - although I didn't make top ten, it's still fun to enter competitions.

Re: EASTER 2015 - Results!

Wow, what a nice surprise! I wasn't really expecting this given the turnout and the diversity of the entries - and the fact that I've been more or less on a brickfilming hiatus for the past five years. It seems that my efforts paid off!

It's great to have been a part of this! I'd like to give props to Rio for dealing with the scoring issue quickly and maturely.

And thanks to all for the warm congratulations. I'd like to take this time to also say that I was really a big fan of some of the other entries, especially those by Penta and Indy. Both of them, I thought, really shined in production, and were quite beautiful as well as entertaining to watch.

We are glad to be in the top three, because there were so many great entries! Congratulations to the winner and to all the entrants! mini/bigsmile

Special thanks to the three judges for being so fast with the results, and to rioforce for organizing this so efficiently. And thanks also of course to rioforce and Monitogo Studios for providing the prizes! mini/smile

That was what the people in chat said to me. I think originality should be based on the approach to the subject matter rather than the use of subject matter. In the case of the Gospel's, I couldn't change anything and wouldn't. So basically if you were to create a movie from the Bible for EASTER any year, your score for originality would be low unless you don't follow the details of the book. If the same method of scoring will be used next year, then I would take this into account.

My score was lowered because I made something straight from the Bible, not on the uniqueness of how I did it. Which is what I was disappointed with.

But I'm not going complain to change it and I respect their decision.
