Re: YouTube

Has anyone noticed any glitches with the updated HQ/HD feature? I swear, 80% of the time I try to play a video in high quality/high definition, the video will start to cut out about a third or a quarter of the way through and then I have to switch over back to standard quality. This only started happening to me once they put the HQ/HD buttons directly on the video player.

Also, I notice that videos played in HD seem to not look like true HD. I was playing Keshen's "Meeting of the Villains" a while ago, and I remember how great it looked in HD, but now it just looks like a blown up version of the standard quality.

Re: YouTube

Yeah, I've noticed it too.

Re: YouTube

Yes I've noticed that and a little while ago I was watching a video and I decided to watch HQ of it and as soon I clicked on it, the video screen said 'We're sorry this video is no longer available'. mini/confused

Re: YouTube

You can get around the HQ/HD glitch by adding &fmt=18 or &fmt=22 respectively to the end of the URL. Also if you go to Account > Video Playback Settings, you can set it to play in HQ automatically.

Re: YouTube

I don't use the HD function at all. It's just something I've never really been interested in. It actually kind of bugs me when people only post a link for the HD version of their video, because then I have to edit the address so it points to the original video. I'm sure there's an easier way, but I don't recall having found it yet.

So, your co-production with Séan is out of date already? mini/tongue

EDIT: By the way, congrats. You deserve it.

Hahaha, it hasn't even been a week! Congratulations, you did deserve it.

I think Séan might be planning another film right now...

Re: YouTube

Congrats, sir.

Re: YouTube

I have run into a problem. Almost all my brickfilms use sound effects from Findsounds.com and I don't know whether or not they're copyrighted. Findsounds says that some are and some aren't, which isn't too helpful.

I'm inclined not to submit these ones because YouTube says that clips from the Internet are in the public domain and submitting a movie with copyrighted material will get it removed, which is kind of scary.

Re: YouTube

If you are so inclined, FindSounds provides the source page from where the sound effect comes from. If you can track down the sound effect that you used, you can look up the sound's source web page and check their terms of use for the sound or even a site admin to ask for their permission.

Although it's always a good idea to know where all your media comes from, I think that YT cares more about music than sound effects/foley. That's not to say that you should never have to worry about using other people's sounds, but I think far less people are going to get up in arms over a sound effect than a music or video clip.

Though, personally, I tend to get paranoid over things like this, so I like to take the safe route. One good place to find good royalty-free sound effects is SoundSnap.com. They recently limited free users to downloading 5 sound effects per month (unless you pay for a premium account), but every sound effect there is free for commercial use.

Oh, and YouTube did another minor design change with the video info boxes and InVideo Ad timing. I'm not quite in favor of the latter, I sort of prefer the ads showing up 10 seconds into the video instead of immediately when it starts.

Re: YouTube

Guys, what sort of stuff did you put when it asks why you want to be a partner?

Re: YouTube

I said that I could be more popular he I made brickfilms about Star Wars, Batman or Indiana Jones, but I don't because I think that originality is key to movie-making. Dunno if it made a difference, though.

On a slightly different subject, it appears that featured videos have been renamed 'spotlight videos'.

Re: YouTube

I know this is sort of off-topic, but have you noticed Christy Moore's youtube channel is a partner?  He has 3 subscribers, and 706 views is the most views on his videos.

I know he's famous and stuff, but I don't think YouTube should allow him be a partner just because he's famous.  He doesn't really meet the qualifications.

I don't know who Christy Moore is.  mini/bigsmile

However, I think the partner program is for Youtube's benefit, not ours. They want to have people who have a chance of getting hits.  So the main criteria for the partner program is "Be Famous".

If you don't happen to be famous, then you have to meet the qualifications.

I just went and applied for the partner program, just for fun.  Have no expectation of being accepted, nor am I too worried about it, but it seems to be all the rage now. mini/bigsmile

Re: YouTube

He's probably only known in Ireland.

*coughitty-cough-cough*

Seriously though, I don't care that I'm not a youtube partner, I haven't really earned it.

Re: YouTube

Okay I can apply again, I need to think of something to write when it asks you why you want to apply mini/tongue
