So, headed back to the college this evening after church.
Not super-excited about it, but I'll be around a bunch of great friends everyday, so that's a plus.
And after this semester, I'll be half-way through!

Keep on pushing! Started my classes back up today.

Not watching it, however I kinda want Ohio to win just cause they're a Big 10 team.

I've never been impressed by a DreamWorks film; every movie they make seems distinctly average, but I don't know, maybe they finally found something that works.

Try Prince of Egypt or Antz, Dreamworks' first 2 animated films.  For live-action: October Sky is great drama and so is Deep Impact.  Also early films from their studios.

Re: Café Corner

Whilst observing scenes from the Lego Movie today, I noticed that yellow minifigs have translucent hands. Later I checked if it was actually translucent or not and it turned out the it is under harsh lighting (just like Cloud Cuckoo Land). The yellow minifigs are more translucent compared to other colours. It just shows how detailed the Lego Movie is.

Re: Café Corner

I've been noticing a lot whilst filming Welcome to Darkmoor today that the protagonist's brown hands (her driving gloves) seem to do this even more than standard yellow hands do, even in the very soft lighting I'm using.  But still, it's only slight.

The LEGO movie is packed with details.  I feel like you could notice something new every time around.  Although I've only seen it once.

Re: Café Corner

Can confirm. After 4 or 5 viewings I'm still noticing new stuff every time I watch it.

Re: Café Corner

Yeah, KD2000, I noticed the first time I got minifigures ("Mary & Bill"), that the hands seemed a little different than all other yellow pieces, and I never gave it a thought for decades.  But you're right about their properties!

Re: Café Corner

The LEGO Movie wasn't nominated for Best Animated Feature in the oscars. I'm angry and confused but I don't know who to be mad at so my emotions are directionless and rampant. Nothing is real.

They totally snub The LEGO Movie, and nominate a film that hasn't even been released yet?!  Seriously?

I....I....I was so sure it would be at least nominated, if not winning. mini/sad

Re: Café Corner

I found a way to do an effect I've been wanting to do in Welcome to Darkmoor for a while where I add colour to a specific light source whilst leaving the rest of the image unaffected.

It's going to take some time to animate like this, but for the red scenes in the film I think this would be a really cool effect.

I've left a more detailed explanation of how it's done on Flickr in case anyone else wanted to know.

Re: Café Corner

It looks good.
You mention using Photoshop to merge two images, but how consistent will the merging be over a few seconds worth of pictures?
Have you tested that yet?

Not yet, actually.  I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to do this with my main lamps, as they take two minutes to warm up,  however, I think my new desk lamp stays more consistent, so I may try that.  Obviously, it's going to be a bit of a pain turning certain lights on and off very quickly and essentially take twice as many frames for only half the final frames, so I'm going to probably try a few tests before I do a final shot.

There are also several shots I have planned which have horribly inconsistent light from frame-to-frame for a completely intentional effect, in which case I wouldn't need to worry about that sort of thing at all.
