In time we'll be experimenting and trying out new/old software that we have yet to add to the list and if it works out fine then we'll add it.

Re: The Updated Free Software List

Just so you know, iMovie is not entirely free. It comes with all new Macs, but if you erase your mac and reinstall Mac OS X, you'll have to buy iMovie to get it back on your mac. All updates are free though. Also Sketchup works with Mac, not only Windows.

That'll be great! My friend particularly doesn't want a virus from any free software, so he is very cautious. Thanks for testing them out. mini/smile

Re: The Updated Free Software List

I can help test out programs. I have a pretty decent Mac, and I get the Mac OS X beta versions when they are available.

We will definitely fix the Sketchup issue. About iMovie, though, I think Shutterpoint included it because it comes loaded with Macs, and people tend not to erase their Macs. I'll have to let him answer that one though, because he was in charge of Mac programs.

If you'd like to help test, then that's great! You can test whichever program you would like (you may want to PM Shutterpoint to see which ones he has already done) then make a post here with a list of programs you have tested and we'll make a list of un-tested programs or something.

Tenny, go for it if you want, I suggest researching anything before you test it as I've downloaded viruses in the past on my windows machine and learned a harsh lesson from that. And yes as rioforce said I left imovie on here because it already comes preloaded on Macs and most people are unaware of it being on there (which I was surprised of).

I don't think many (if any) of these are virus ridden programs. The adverts may lead you to download something, but if you be careful or use an ad-blocker, you should be OK. Always take caution when downloading, of course. mini/wink

That and if you download something not on the list.

Re: The Updated Free Software List

Is there a place where CeltX can be downloaded directly, instead of d/ling an installer and having it installed via the internet?

Probably not, but if you don't want to install celtx, you can still write scripts online with their webapp.

Re: The Updated Free Software List

I've recently switched to Trelby from CeltX recently. It has much cleaner interface then CeltX and doesn't have all the confusing online syncing stuff.

Re: The Updated Free Software List

Actually, Tenny, that's the less-preferable option for me!  I'm still going to scour the net for a self-contained installer

I'm pretty sure that if the program requires some special files inside the system folders of your computer, it's going to require an installer. There's no way to install it otherwise.

Sadly not but I use it all the time and it was worth the installation process

LDraw, the core library for LeoCAD, should be included too.
