Topic: What causes horizontal lines when rendering your final?

So I do my capture and edit in Sony Vegas v10.  Quality is beautiful in the editor.  Sounds are great.  Nice 1280 x 720 resolution.  15 fps.

When I render the movie as a mp4 and play back as mp4 using media player, occasionally there will be horizontal lines on one or two frames - mostly when there is fast movement.  What causes that and how do I remove it?

Screenshots would help but I'm guessing you're talking about this?

Solution: Deinterlace

Someone familiar with Sony Vegas will have to answer the rest.

Re: What causes horizontal lines when rendering your final?

Do you render your video at 15fps? I didn't get interlaced lines but I did used to get ghost frames as a result of Vegas defaulting to a different frame rate. I fixed this by changing the frame rate in the render options and by setting a Keyframes option to 0.

Re: What causes horizontal lines when rendering your final?

Yep, it has to do with one basic thing.
Sony Vegas doesn't do well with converting from one frame rate to the next.
At all.

So if your raw footage is 15FPS, then you will need to export your final film in 15FPS.
Without much research or investigation, that's the only easy solution that I've found.
And I have yet to find a solution for that when burning my videos to a DVD.

I had a long, hard time with this.  I fixed the problem with this long ago but fogot how I did it.  It's all in the rendering settings.

I haven't tried this yet but placing here as a gem for future searchers (if it works!):

random internet person wrote:

Set your project settings to progressive and field order to blend and render to progressive as well you will see no interlace lines.

Edit: and a link on how to remove ghosting (for Vegas Pro users only)

LEt us know if it works.  If so, I will cut & paste this into a file and keep it forever.
