At least "The Lego Movie" received one nomination.
Was hoping for more. mini/confused

Looks like "Birdman" is going to sweep it.

Re: Golden Globes 2015

So far the awards race is looking like a footrace between Birdman and Boyhood; I expect the former to take Comedy/Musical and the latter to take Drama. Linklater is looking poised to take Director/Screenplay, though - I'd give Boyhood the edge in the race overall (so far).

Some thoughts/reactions:

  • Jennifer Aniston is picking up some steam with this and her SAG nomination. Dark horse Best Actress nominee?

  • Same for Robert Duvall/The Judge. I don't recall the movie being a critical darling, and I haven't seen it, but maybe he's a standout in it or something. Doesn't really matter, it's JK Simmons' category to lose.

  • Quevanzhané Wallis, eh? ...so does this mean Annie is actually decent?

  • Gone Girl scores 4 nods including Director yet can't convert on a Picture nod...interesting.

On the TV end of things:

  • Happy that Jane the Virgin got some recognition. One of the better new releases of the year.

  • No Tatiana Maslany/Orphan Black for Drama Actress is a shame, though, especially since she was nominated last year. I mean, really, does Claire Danes really deserve another nod for Homeland?

  • I really need to catch up on The Affair.

  • So is True Detective a series or a miniseries? The producers can never seem to decide.

  • No Peter Dinklage for Game of Thrones. A pretty massive oversight.

Re: Golden Globes 2015

Quevanzhané Wallis is one of the most talented child actors out there right now. The movie can suck, but her performance may have won the judges over. Whiplash was missed in many categories, which disappointed me. Only JK Simmons with a nomination for supporting actor.

Sadly, I don't think Hollywood respects animation enough to ever nominated an animated film for anything other than best animated film, especially after the whole deal with the best animated picture category of the Oscars last year. I will be seen dancing in the streets with joy the day that animated films are treated the same way as live action films by the mainstream, but I fear that day may never come.

Sad but true.  There have only been three animated films nominated for best picture.  However I think that overall animation has surpassed live action.

As far as the Oscars are concerned, only three animated films have ever been nominated for Best Picture.
"Beauty and the Beast" got darn close to winning. It was a serious Oscar contender back in the day.
Unfortunately, no other animated film has ever gotten as close to winning since.

Now, as far as the Golden Globes are concerned, there are three animated films that have won for Best Picture.
"Beauty and the Beast"…."Lion King"….and "Toy Story 2."

I don't know if it will ever happen, but one day, I hope a feature length animated film will win the Best Picture Oscar.

Re: Golden Globes 2015

It's gonna be a close run for Best Animated Feature. It's most likely going to be between TLM, HTTYD2, and Big Hero 6. I've only seen The LEGO Movie, but as it's one of my favorite films ever, I'm just naturally hoping that it wins. I'm doubting that Big Hero 6 would win as Frozen won last year, but then again, Pixar did win four years in a row. And if HTTYD2 won, it would be the first win for Dreamworks since 2001 with Shrek (that's excluding 2005's Wallace in Gromit, but I don't necessarily see that one as a Dreamworks film.)

But still...go LEGO Movie.

Re: Golden Globes 2015

In my opinion, it's really only a competition between TLM and HTTYD2. Big Hero 6, while still an enjoyable movie, had nowhere near the depth and emotion that TLM and HTTYD2 had. It's just a fun film with a good message and all that stuff, but nothing that truly blew me away in terms of animation or story/characters. If it were to win, it would only be because of bias towards Disney, which would be a terrible shame. TLM and HTTYD2 are both excellent films. Big Hero 6 just doesn't stand against them.

Birdman looks stupid.  The superhero isn't even in it!  I'm not surprised it's got so many nominations.

Re: Golden Globes 2015

Birdman is about a famous actor who was a fictional superhero in film.

Re: Golden Globes 2015

Holding, I think Birdman is supposed to be both a subtle nod to Spiderman: The Musical and a satirical spin on the role that lead actor Michael Keaton is most famous for...

looks =/= is

Maybe the superhero isn’t in it much because it’s about the struggle of an actor trying to be taken seriously in a culture that only talks and cares about superheroes. Ironic, huh…

Well, I'm fairly disappointed that Nightcrawler, Interstellar, and Gone Girl got nearly no recognition. It's starting to feel like the nominations are more and more reserved for films that tell empowering, historical stories rather than having a solid overall quality (which I feel like 12 Years a Slave was a good example of).

Other than that, my guess is that Ida is definitely going to win the Best Foreign Film, and that Richard Linklater is deservingly going to take the win for Best Director. I'm also really interested to see who'll be Best Actor in a Mini-Series or TV Movie, and I honestly don't know who to root for.

Guys, he's obviously trolling.

My old YouTube is since long ago defunct - now even removed.
Here is my new one.

Re: Golden Globes 2015

Filip, finally someone gets it!  But there is actually truth to my story.  When I first heard they were making a Birdman movie, I was so excited!  But then Entertainment Weekly had a one-sentence description of the film and I realized that it had nothing to do with Birdman and I felt tricked in a cruel way.
