We've found in past years that a lot of people are vacationing out of town if THAC is scheduled too closely to Christmas. So we cycle between late December and early January depending on where the days of the week fall on a given year.
Not sure now if I'll be entering this year. It falls on Sunday and I will most likely be at church. I hope I can participate!

January 3rd is actually a Saturday. For as long as I can remember, THAC has always been on a Saturday.

For me, that's kind of a good thing! I can do THAC all day Saturday, and if I finish early (though, I don't know if I will, because I've never done this before), I can get a couple of hours of sleep and still make it to church on Sunday.

Don't get me wrong, in the long run, I am pleased with the time. But I hate waking up early on weekends haha
I'll most likely be working that Saturday, unless I get off which is highly unlikely.

And just so I make it clear I didn't choose the time to be the most helpful to me, that's when THAC starts for me too.
Which means I have to get up even earlier to prepare!

Rock on! I'm an OHIO boy myself! Anyone else in the east coast, join me (and hopefully Sonjira) in waking up at 4AM to let those west coasters know we respect! Haha

Living in northern California for THAC X and Virginia for THAC 11 I have experienced both.
While the start time is early in America, I find this preferable. It helps mitigate how far beyond one's normal bed time it is by the time you're finishing your film and trying ever so hard to keep enough presence of mind to make sure it is submitted correctly.
