Topic: How to Animate New Creeper!?

Heyo! I recently received some of the new LEGO Minecraft sets, and I'm trying to figure out how to animate this creeper:

His legs are symmetrical in that they always have the right leg put forward, even if they're flipped around.

What do?

Re: How to Animate New Creeper!?

Hmm, this is like trying to animate a horse or the Philosopher's Stone troll. Maybe just try some fragmented shots: by that I mean don't show the feet when it's walking. If you're focused on the head and shoulders/upper section of the body, you can have the Creeper move, without showing the feet.

I have no idea how a Creeper actually walks though, as I've never played Minecraft mini/sad  I know, I'm horribly uneducated. Which sets did you get?

Re: How to Animate New Creeper!?

How about leaning the creeper forward a bit when making the step... but it will have to be the right leg each time the way I see it.

Looking at the design of how the creeper is built, it's creepy. I mean, making a new custom brick for that when we have other bricks that could do the same thing? (LEGO isn't much of a system anymore, it's now pre-made toys discouraging imagination... mini/sad )

Seeing how the legs are attached and permanent, you could animate them like people animate minifigure short-legs. Hopping, sliding, wiggling to and fro. Or, you could build a new one using pre-existing bricks (like the one I built a second ago). (Not the best, but a proof of concept. I'm better with I'm building with real bricks rather than LDD)

Just with some themes.

Oh please, this isn't true in the slightest. You can't take a pre-fabricated piece that is meant to represent a unique figure and claim it discourages imagination. In fact, I'd argue the current minifig-scale Minecraft sets are a fantastic example of The LEGO Group returning to their roots, with plenty of basic building bricks mixed in with cool building techniques.

I'd consider using the Creeper head (for the iconic face) but making the rest of the Creeper built-built.

I was referring mostly to the new creeper, and other custom parts like that. It just seems like every new licensed them that comes along (like Simpsons, or Guardians of the Galaxy) gets brand new custom parts to represent their pre-made characters. I'm not saying that all LEGO is bad, or that LEGO has killed imagination completely, I'm sort of just complaining about custom parts. mini/tongue

This is exactly what I was talking about. mini/wink

You never know what moc builders will do with obscure parts.

I see it turned upside down and arranged in a row to make a hedge that hasn't been trimmed.

I was kind of referring to the average person that purchases LEGO, not those awesome MOC builders. mini/wink

Anyway, let's get back on topic, shall we?

All of them! mini/bigsmile

Also, I think I'll try the hopping technique soon. I was considering building my own rig but I'm not especially confident that I can pack much movement in and still have it look good. I might stick with the set for now.
