Re: How long does it take you to animate?

I can complete a ten second clip in ten minutes; obviously it'll look awful. Now talking with sense, normally it takes 5+ hours.

Re: How long does it take you to animate?

It depends on what i'm animating, if it is walking or talking roughly 3 hours for 15 or 20 seconds. If i was animating a fight scene or a scene with a lot going on, probably more like 5 or 6 hours.

Wow, 5+ hours for only 10 seconds!?! mini/eek
I usually take about 30 minutes to complete 10 seconds. mini/blankexpression

And that my friend, is why your animation probably isn't perfect.

When something is a hobby, I for one like to not rush it, but take my jolly ol' time. mini/wink

Re: How long does it take you to animate?

Alright, guys. I just animated 12 seconds in an hour and 25 minutes. It had quite a lot of stuff to do in it. Camera movements, car drive-by, a couple of different walk cycles, and I think the shot came out somewhat decent, though there was some light flicker that bothered me. Also this was at 13 fps, so it would probably have taken a longer amount of time if I did it 15 fps, so I guess you could say I cheated a little. Still came out pretty smooth though!
I would post it here but it's for a project I'm doing and I want to show it when the project is finished. mini/wink

Re: How long does it take you to animate?

I can do 10 seconds in about an hour and a half.

Ah, but is the quality of your animation as top notch as something like MindGame's or Nathan Wells's?

Re: How long does it take you to animate?

i dont really know it depends on what i am animating.

It takes me that long also.

Re: How long does it take you to animate?

I'm a pretty quick animator, when I actually get around to doing it (I rarely have the motivation). During THAC 5A, I shot the 2 minutes of footage my film had in about 4 hours. Most of it was still frames for dialog, but that's still pretty quick.

Really? That's nearly impossible!

Re: How long does it take you to animate?

I'm a reasonably fast animator. 10 seconds at my framerate, 15FPS, would probably take me 40 minutes at average. Depending on what I'm animating.  I'm fast enough at walk cycles since I'm so used to them, but I take huge care with animating minifigs that aren't walking.  It's a lot easier to bump him when he isn't walking.

Well, considering it was mostly still frames (for dialog), it's not that impossible. Pressing a button over and over again is pretty quick. I wouldn't suggest animating that quickly, though. It doesn't turn out as good as you would want.

Re: How long does it take you to animate?

I can't bear to have stillness for dialogue. I just can't pull it off as well as some people can.

Re: How long does it take you to animate?

If I am filming something easy like a walking cycle, it could take me 25 minutes to get 10  seconds done, but if it is something more advanced, like a fightscene, it could take 5+ hours
