Re: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

I made a how-to video on setting up a stop motion set for beginners. I'm not saying snyone here needs that info, but if you wanna check out my set, it's shown a lot in this video.

Anyway, sillypenta, I love the dolly. I may have to see if I can purchase some LEGO traintracks.

Re: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

Thanks for the feedback; it's nice to hear that people like the dolly. Keep in mind that if you buy the tracks, you will also need some wheels to fit. I used these small handcart wheels that I got in the Train Station set #7997 as opposed to the full size train wheels and I would recommend them.

Welcome back, dude! Great to see you working on something new, and I can only wish you the best of luck! Nice job on the rig, by the way.

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

This is my dolly.  I used lego mindstorm pieces because they are larger, more "techincal" (have handy angles and cogs) and are expected to carry weight.

You can see a handle on the shaft of the cog.  One "click" (basically one tooth on the cog) is exactly half a stud.  This happens to be my preferred pan speed completely by accident!  The rubber wheels are a joy.  My ownly qualm is that it sits a little high off the ground.  Easy enough to fix with mindstorm.  I'll adjust the chassis to swing freely and below the wheel axles.  That will give a nice ground hugging profile.  If I need a "high" shot then I'll just prop the webcam up on blocks like everyone does.

Anyone recognise those baseplates|

I'm going to either get around to making a pvc pipe and skateboard wheel dolly, or splash out for a motorised dolly for my tripod when I have saved enough.

So I got some mail today, and my prize came for just entering a film into the My RØDE Reel competition. A free shirt, but more importantly, I now have a half decent microphone. Only problem is, is that I need a smart phone to use it. Guess my logitech microphone I stole from my Wii singing game will have to suffice for now. At least I can look like the director whilst I animate.

I have also been doing some cleaning in the studio. I now have twice as much animation space as I had before BRAWL, and everything is much more organised and easy to use. My tripod even tucks away nicely under the animation table, and my favourite part is there are now no more cables tangling the tripod in a web.

Now I just need to get a better chair and a third light.

I'm thinking of building a light box for my ex computer desk so I can make more paper animations. That way my laptop is always in a good position for brickfilming. Now if only I had the money to set up a dual monitor Apple Mac retina display...

Re: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

I've been building and setting up for my first shot of a Celebration contest entry over the last couple of days. I think all I need to do now is clean the windows and take the remaining stickers off. This is a very complicated setup by my standards. I even had to find a second light! mini/jaw

Those paper walls look hilarious from above but they work fine on camera. I'm trying to go for a bit of a DIY style.

Technic figures! I don't think I've actually seen anyone use them for a brickfilm before.

Not sure about the posters in the bank window, but I like the simplicity of the ATM.

Technic figures were very popular in the early days of brickfilms.com. Also, I have gotten around to removing the stickers by now.

I'm curious...what's the stack of blue plates for?

Re: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

For Pirates Rule I needed  lot of extra blue plates, so I had some ordered in bulk.  I now store them by stacking them like that since I have so many in the exact shape.
It adds some extra weight to the dolly to keep it from bumping.

Re: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

From a flick I'm about 2/3 through:

Tiny set is good right?  I'm actually bouncing light off my table top into the set.  I had to open some of the side walls to permit even more light in.  The set is "raised" to permit a camera underneath.  Everything above the red line is the set.

The only thing the camera see's is the roof and walls.

By standing the figs on a single round stud I can get angles not common in brick films
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80858415/hosted/P1020514.JPG

Access holes on the sides allow me to rotate the figures.  It also permits light in.

This is a ridiculously tight set and its driving me nuts.  It was always going to be a challenge and a challenge it is!  The best part about web cams is they can get into tight spaces.  mini/smile  With this set up I get this great shot I've shown before:

This project is trying my patience and I just want it to end frankly.  I just need to take a few deep breaths and go one frame at a time ....

Neat set! I like the details you put in the wall.
